    AVIC-N2 Install

Well now. I just had a "stereo shop" install my AVIC N2 instead of doing it myself. End result I will be in there fixing it myself.

Bigeeeeeest problem in their install to watch out for? I have a 1999.5 F250 Super Duty and they connected the speed sensor wire to a wire behind the dash, I could not see today which wire it was but seemed to be the speed sensor wire. My trans went nuts, no cruise control, at around 40 mph the OD OFF light would flash, my trans was getting hot and hotter just idling, no TC lock up..... Well it was all due to the speed sensor connection to the Pioneer AVIC-N2. I had my trans guy run the code and then I unplugged the speed sensor wire to the AVIC-N2 and all is back to normal. The AVIC-N2 is still working just fine.

I am having my trans fluid changed Monday anyway but don't like those temps, and without a load.....ARG!!!!!

I just wanted to send out a warning, or maybe someone can tell me where they went wrong?

    Happy trails.....

    Re: AVIC-N2 Install

The stereo shop hooked up to the engine speed sensor wire (RPM) instead of the pulse signal wire. I did the AVIC-N2 install by myself. If I remember correctly, the wire you are looking for is a either gray with black strip or black with gray strip wire connected to the instructment gauage display. One thing, my truck is 2004 and the installation was a while back, so I don't know if the wire color is the same or not.

    Good luck.

Go to this web sight, The12Volt.com. This is the forum for all the dealer/installers across the U.S. for alarms/stereos, basically anything for aftermarket car electronics. These guys are the propellor heads of the car aftermarket industry and can answer any question.

Alright thanks! The unit works just fine without the speed sensor connection. The parking brake is grounded and the reverse connection is not hooked up either so.....I use the rear cam connection for a wireless cam in my horse trailer so wanted it in the view all the time rather thanbacking up anyway so..... I think I will just leave it alone for now. I will check with the propeller heads at this site though.
    Thanks again.

    Mike,

I think that you will find that the Nav distance, to like a turn, will not be correct if the speed sensor is not connected. I had the N2 in my previous truck, and had the D1 installed in the new one. I really like the features/options. Have you figured out the way to confuse the radio to allow you to use the nav features while in motion?

I over-ride the pioneer safety features on my AVIC-N2. Now I can use all the navigation features and watch DVD while in motion. It was a simple mod.

    Re: AVIC-N2 Install

Alright I have noticed now the time accuracy is not quite there. I have the wiring info and will check to see if it is the same as they used.

I have a rear monitor coming and have planned to install a mount in the front and rear. so where ever I want it I can see what ever I want. I would prefer to bypass the restrictions. I have read you can solder the 2 connections, my brake wire is already grounded. My big question is does that work just fine? No problems? I saw some scare messages on other forums that say if you do that it will short out your unit and render it dead. So you have done it and now problem? Exactly what do you do to get the unit out of the mount? I would really like it to work as parked all the time and have always planned to do that, just want to make sure it will not mess up my unit.
    Thanks.

everything works fine since the mod which i did it few months ago. some people tend to overheat the soldering point if they don't know what they were doing. it didn't take much heat to solder. one hint, use a small piece of wire to connect the two soldering points because they are kind of far and it will be difficult to build up enough soldering between them before it overheat.

    Still not getting it

Alright no problem on the wire to solder. However the guy at the stereo shop did connect to the grey with black wire behind my speedo. It gave me all those problems. Could this be a result of my performance mod? I am not sure. Thinking about purchasing that module for speed sensor.

    ANY IDEAS?

    THANKS!!!!!

    Transmission shifting

I am noticing since they put a connector on the grey/black wire my transmission shifting and TC lock is a bit wierd. Not sure if related but when my trans is cold the TC does not lock up. Works fine when warmed up. May be unrelated or may be the connector on the wire is causing an impedance problem?

    ANY IDEAS?

    THANKS.

    Got It Figured Out

On my 1999.5 F250 Super Duty the grey/black wire behind the dash is the rpm sensor and as long as there was a connector crimped onto the wire it changed the impedance of the connection and my trans was slipping all the time. We took off the connector and everything is back to normal. We will next connect the speed sensor to the pulse wire under the hood. It is a tough wire to get to.
