2 inch blocks or 1 inch blocks???

Okay, I,m getting my rear blocks this weekend, and Donahoe is saying that to be completely level I will need the two inch blocks, but some of you guys are saying 1 inch blocks. Now it makes sense to me the two inch because the rear was two inches higher at stock, and I put 4.5 inches of lift in the front, so technically the front should now be 2.5 inches higher than the rear. I'm gonna go with the two inch and if I get the stink bug, I'll just get the 1 inch. I don't want the rear to be lower at all either though, cuzz then when I hook up the trailer, it will really be lower.
Big thanks to Bud and Matt for getting me back on the road!

Re: 2 inch blocks or 1 inch blocks???

    my take is:

Your front was originally about 3.5 to 3.75" lower than the rear.

As such, your 4.5" lift left you about 1" lower in the rear (from level)

A 1" block will give you a very level appearance. If you park downhill, the front will looks ever so slightly lower. If you park uphill, the rear will look ever so slightly lower. (weird, but true)

If you are going to tow a trailer, get a 2" block with no air bags, or a 1" block and add air bags (later?).

I liked the 1" block myself. (with bags) That's what I had in my truck (sans bags) before I had to lower my truck a bit.

I definately do not want bags, but will the 2 inch give me a stink bug? Or would it be pretty much level?

    pretty much level.

Jack up your truck by the rear hitch 1" and 2". Take a look. You can tell pretty good by that method.

It is better looking and functional (I think) to have the front about 1 inch lower than the rear. If it is level and you put weight in the rear, it rides low like a yard keepers Chebby.

The 2 inch blocks should be perfect. even if the rear up higher by a half an inch to a full inch, that is not stink bug. Stink bug is the stock 4X2 where the rear is 4.5" higher in the rear!!! If your going to be towing with your truck, you might want it a just a little bit higher in the rear because it will squat when you hook up the trailer.

    Just curious.
    Why are you aginst bags.
I thought that they did not change your ride unless you air them up to level when towing?
(unless you are like Gene and use them for air ride)
    Is there something I missed?

Re: 2 inch blocks or 1 inch blocks???

Well for a couple of reasons, The first and primary,$$$$
second, I don't really want bags on my truck. I've loaded about 12,000 pounds in my truck/trailer, and it barely squats. That's pretty much it, I would just rather spend money on the other things I'm interested in. It's just preference. That leaves me more money for

Well I got my two inch blocks, and they are actually 2.25 give or take, they sure do look alot bigger though in my hand. I was gonna put them on today but, My back was hurting again as usual. This back thing is so frustrating.

Re: 2 inch blocks or 1 inch blocks???

So when installing these blocks, they go right on top of the ones that are already on there? but is this very stable, it sure looks like it wouldn't be, I mean it already looks like theres 3 inch blocks under there, isn't there some kind of block that replaces the stock one, it seems that would be better, I don't know though.

Re: 2 inch blocks or 1 inch blocks???

You can put them in and tack weld them together, but...unless you have u-bolt failure, I've never heard of them spitting out. (not that it hasn't, but...I've never seen this)

I think since the spring mount is solid (vs. stamped on some other axles), this would prevent it from loosening up.

I'd still tack weld the blocks together, once they were in, but that's just me.
