    Re: Modifications and Warranty

    John,

I am glad someone has delt with this warranty issue directly and in a way there is no confusion. I trust you have discussed the club position with Bobby so what you have stated is not only your opinion, but that of the professional who certaintly is "in the know".

I have silently struggled with the warranty issues wondering if the mods you did on your last truck and the ones I have on mine would actually result in losing the 100,000 mile warranty on the engine. The silence of officials could have been viewed as tacid approval and there would be a "wink" to mild mods.

But, after two years of being close to this issue, I have come to realize that what you say is true, and I think you have done a great service to those people who are buying the new trucks and are hoping to not have a bitter supprise when something goes wrong.

Anyway, just me saying thanks, I like to have the facts "straight out" so we can all make intelligent decisions.

    Re: Modifications and Warranty

For example, the 2005 model year Warranty Guide states that damage caused by the following is not covered:
    Caused by...hmm...

So, if my window switch is loose they can't void my warranty because of my cat-back exhaust?

Or if my engine leaks oil and I have 285's on my truck...i'm ok?

    It's common sense.

Push the limits and Ford will push back.

To say that Ford will void your entire warranty due to a lift kit is nonsense.

If your glove box door handle cracks...they're going to step up even if you're lifted 11".

Now, if you're steering goes out with a lift, then you're on your own (if they feel that it's caused by your modifications)

I had my steering pump replaced with 35,770 miles, an 8" lift and 38" tires. The dealer saw my work and said "looks good". They stepped up and fixed it.

If they said "no", I would have fixed it myself.

    You play, you pay.

    Common sense.

    Re: Modifications and Warranty

When I bought my 2002 at Ken Grody Ford, They had a Banks Display setup in the Parts Dept. and the salesman asked me if I wanted to put any one of the kits on my vehicle. How can the dealer offer mods that will void the warranty they just sold you--BEFORE you even put one mile on the truck??

I know Bobby is probably the one to ask. I have been comtemplating a move to a 2wd, extracab SB as I have been fighting with my HOA over my F-350 (which is another story altogether)

I've heard of people putting F250 badges on their F350's due to HOA regulations.
    Just a thought.

Might be too late for that, though...since they already know the truck.

It looks to be a "cat back" system, in which there hasn't been any warranty issues with.

    Thumbs up Warranty

The magnus-moss warranty act protects most of the items you put on your vehicle depending on the "street legal" aspect. Check it out...

    http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/...#Magnuson-Moss

    Might help??

    Cheers!

    Warranty work...

Sometimes having a warranty issue resolved can be all about the presentation. I have seen many questionable (due to mods) warranty issues taken care of by a dealer, partly because of the vehicle owner having a good working relationship with a service writer/service manager etc. I have also seen customers enter a service drive with an attitude (fng Fords!) and leave with either a 'customer pay' ticket or a truck that still has headgaskets kicked out of it (for example). A little kindness to the service writer goes a long way in my opinion. (And no I don't write service and am in no way monetarily compensated by any FoMoCo affiliated dealer!)
