    John Wood Transmissions

Now I understand the high praise others have posted regarding John Wood.

Went to his shop in Holtville this week and John went completely through my tranny. His knowledge, attention to detail, and conscientiousness is incredible.

Johns upgrades are the result of years of practical experience and study. John spent a lot of time showing me what he does and why. He even cut open a 6.0 converter and explained in detail how it works and the specific differences between the best known converters on the market.

My truck has 31,000 miles on it, with only 5,000 of those spent towing. I already had wear on the parts John knew he would be replacing. John personally machines his upgrades and matched them to my towing needs.

He also installed a remote trans cooler with its own thermal controlled fan under my truck. The quality of parts and the quality of installation are what you will find on first class off-road racing rigs.

I towed to his place after dark at 85 degrees ambient and my trans ran at 185. I towed home during the day at 100 ambient and my trans ran 170! The cooler doesn't come on untill 180, so all this gain in cooler temps was just from his tranny work!

Last summer I hit 220 trans temps regularly while towing up grades in high heat. I'm sure that's a thing of the past. I'll confirm it here as summer progresses.

IMHO, there is no reason to go to Arkansas, Florida, or Colorado for the highly publicized transmissions, when we can have better right here in So Cal!

Well after seeing that truck in action, I think the name "Black Beauty" is too cute for that truck! That truck doese evil thing to asphault, rubber and anyone crazy enough to challenge it. I think it should be call "The Dark Side". Because after you go for a ride in it, you have gone over to the dark side. That is a very bad bad truck!
