    Tow hooks?

What do you use while off roading & whats your thoughts about it?

I've been off roading for years , but have never had a rig this heavy..

So what do you guys think?
I'm just asking should I go with your standard.

    Or maybe something else?

Your truck doesn't have hooks up front? I just use the 3 ball tow thing to tie ropes or chains to. Haven't had any issues.

Thatll work for pulling someone down the road a little ways, but NOT for trying to pull out a stuck truck. If it snaps the bolt, that ball can do some serious damage to your truck, yourself, or some bystanders.

I'd put the most heavy-duty recovery point possible if I were you.

I completely agree with Steve. Whatever recovery point you use, make sure it can withstand the tremendous amount of stress and instant shock that it may be subjected to. Why do you think they make recovery straps that can withstand 10K, 20K, 30K pounds and more? There is alot of energy being withheld during a recovery and you don't want any of those items failing and allowing that energy to release itself in a manner that may injure or kill someone.

Although they are not hooks as indicated in the subject line of this thread, there is a pic of a recovery point in the first post that is not a hook, so I'll attach pics of the recovery points I use.

The bill is there so you can visualize the size.

I realized this is not gonna be as simple as I hoped..
I just did a front shackle filp & it seems to sorta be in the way..

Maybe if you guys with skills can help me come up with a plan we can do this on the next wrenching day.
I'm going to AZ to visit my mom & go off roading with the local club & I have no idea what to expect on the trails their gonna take me on.

So any help on this would be very appreciated.

Makes me wonder if I could mount a hook to the front of spring mount.?

I suspect the metal used was never ment to do what it would be asked to do if I tried it.

I wish I had the money to just have a custom bumper build with the points built in.. ( Maybe one day. )

Go over to Powerstroke.org and look for Matt P. He still might have an Iron Bull Bumper for sale. The IBB would be perfect for ya. Winch location, lights, and some nice tow hooks.
