Building power from a '95-97 PSD?

I'm new to the Diesel world & wonder whats the best way to build reliable power?

I've heard about chipping, but what about mechanical parts?
    Injectors? turbos? etc etc?

I want to build a truck that will tow a fully loaded trailer up the steepest hills without any issues. ( dont we all. )

    & What about the trans?

    Will the automatic take it?
Or do I need a stick?

I've seen many trans go out pulling a trailer up steep hills.
I doubt thay had trans cools & such, but seems very normal for the Ford trans in the PSD F350 to be the weak link.

    ill have to ask this....

how much are you looking to spend total?

for that year i would do injectors, turbo, exhaust, intake, fuel system, gauges, intercooler, and a custom tuned chip

then plan to spend at least 3k on a built trans... but more than likely 4k-5k

Well I can see that happening over a few years of buying stuff when I can spare the cash...

& That being said, most of us wont go get all that done right away all at the same time.

So whats the chip alone gonna get you power wise just on its own?

& Is the chip designed to work only with all the stock parts?
& If so what happens once you have the money for more parts?
will the chip need an upgrade?

Some of the late 96's and all 97 California trucks had larger injectors than the rest of the 47 state trucks. I was told they had more power when chipped. That would help for a while anyways.

    lol pretty much...

this is what i would start with

intake, exhaust, gauges and a custom tuned chip...

later your going to want to get a intercooler to keep egt's down.. after that i would upgrade your transmission to be able to support the mods youll be doing in the future...

after all that is when i would get into the big stuff like injectors, turbo, fuel system, ect. ect.

    hope that helps

I have a California model and I love it. With the mods I have done it has dyno'd at 280HP and 500TQ. Those are the some of the best numbers for the OBS trucks that I have seen. My truck is a stick as well and I can pull anything with little to no trouble. It will pull my 10,000 pound toyhauler up to Big Bear and never hint that it is having an issue with the weight.

It all starts with the proper tuning for your chip and David Lott at Diesel Innovations made my truck run and tow like a champ. He is also a site sponsor here and if you call him up he will point you in the direction you want to go.

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said:

Are those considered big numbers for these diesels?

The biggest for stock injectored 94-97 PSD's, yes they are. The injectors on most OBS trucks are AA codes that flow about 90cc's. My California truck has AB injectors that flow 130cc's. Even though the AB's are split shots and the AA's are singles. you will get more HP out of the stock AB with the right tuning. But there is also a huge difference in tuning as well. My old chip was OK and ran like every chipped OBS truck, but when I got my DI tunes I gained another 60+HP and 110TQ.

Newbie here bumping a two month old thread.

If your PSD is maxed out now with the stock AB injectors, what injectors and related mods would take it to the next level?

Please type slowly and easy on the acronyms.

Upgrade to a SD hpop and something bigger for fuel injectors. The bigger injectors will max out the 15 degree pump a lot easier. Or just go with an aftermarket hpop and go real big. But you have to worry about egt's since the obs trucks don't have an intercooler.

2001 F250 7.3 83k miles. Finally tuned DP Tuner, no start, 60 tow, 80 econ, 120 race, 140 agressive, airaid intake and magnaflow 4" turbo back.

    What's a huge difference?
    & what it's cost?

How does two lbs of oil pressure make power?
It wouldn't add power to a gas engine.
