    torque values for water pump

What should I torque the water pump bolts down to on a 1995 F-350 PSD?

    Thanks,

    -Brian

Re: torque values for water pump

    OK

water pump bolts are 15 lb/ft
    pulley bolts are 12-18 1b/ft

and don't forget that the cooling fans are right hand threads. According to the manual, left is loose facing the motor and right is tight. Earlier models were backwards i seem to recall, but they reversed the way the fan nut threads from it looks like. Engines still rotate clockwise and have reverse threads on fans to keep them from spinning loose. Mine has a big red sticker on the radiator shroud to remind you of that. I guess 95 is the same.

P.S. read up on coolant additives for diesels, especially since you have a lot of miles already. There is an anti-cavitation additive called ford FW-16 (formerly FW-15) which is the same as international/fleetguard DCA4.

If you still have the diesel supplement to the owners manual, check it out.

Re: torque values for water pump

Thanks Mike. I will see if I can get the pump out and in tomorrow. (was installing a steel fuel line, about 18 feet long, in my toy hauler tonight, yay, the generator starts again...now to figure out the remote starter problem)

No manuals at all...no addendum. Thanks.

I grabbed some NAPACool today. I think I read somewhere that is the same stuff, am I right?

Check that out carefully! There's the DCA4 stuff and the "other" stuff (basically there are two different types I think!) and I don't think they are compatible. Cheers!

Now I am scared. Ok, I guess I'll return the NAPA stuff and go to the Ford dealer and get the other stuff.

    Thanks,

Look up the International dealer... in your area... These little items are a much better deal there. (DCA4) and they have normally priced jugs of coolant either 50/50 mix or full concentration for $5 or $6 per gallon that is 444 (7.3) diesel compatible.

I have not flushed my system, but have added some additive. I figure sometime next year I may flush it. Is that your trucks original waterpump? I can only hope mine lasts 200,000 miles.

Oh well, NAPA doesn't let you return "chemicals"...bastages. I will try this stuff. I think it'll be fine. It's got the same description and uses the same quantities, I think.

Re: torque values for water pump

I got it installed today. I used an ASC lifetime warranty one that sells for 206 at AutoZone, but thanks to a friend I made at Ecology Auto Wrecking I got it for 150! Thanks for your help.. Seems like it's working. I doubt it was the original, but who knows. I am the second owner of this truck. The reason I doubt it is because it was relatively clean inside (and out)...but, I suppose that could be from good care and the fact that I washed the engine and compartment right after I bought it.

It's a REALLY good thing I replaced it too...seems like the bearings were so loose that the pump blades were actually eating away at the aluminum pump body, about 1/8" in the lower part. Yikes!

I think I may need to get another power steering pump soon, the pully/shaft are easy to wiggle.

Now to get some of those test strips.
