    Cool Priorities are in order!

    Hey,

due to the economic crisis we're in and me not having money to spend on my truck yet, i wanted to know what are the common problems on the 6.0l? (i know the hardcore 7.3l peeps are gonna say everything is wrong with the 6.0l, lol). On a minor note, i got accepted into the riverside county sheriff department and have a tentative date of july or auguts for the academy so then i'll have money to invest in my truck and not worry about the economic situation. I know everybody has their opinion but i wanted to know the most common problems like head studs, egr, etc...so i know what to invest in first i am gonna go with raul@stealthautomotive for exhaust, sct, afe or s&b intake, guages, but my priorities are in order...i wanna fix the common problems first then modify instead of fixing them later. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you want to mod your truck do head studs first then an EGR delete , gauges , exhaust , SCT , intake and then what ever else you want to do. I would do them in that order also.

6.0's are known to have headgasket issues and EGR issues. I wouldn't worry to much about blowing the HG's as long as you don't put a high HP tune on it. The EGR's break when the EGT's get high or the oil cooler gets restricted. As long as you keep it stock it will be fine but once you start modding I would go in the order WeWeld said. Bedplate leaks can happen on the 6.0's and that requires the engine to be pulled and that would be a good time to get it studded but make sure the heads are within spec. And I would leave the stock intake, it does good enough.

    He's gonna be a Cop!!!!

EGR delete, with or without the coming smog testing, would violate FEDERAL law by removing a required federal emission control device, just like pulling the cat, but far more difficult and involved.
Being a law enforcement officer, he would probably not want to break the rules, so plan on getting the new EGR equipment Ford is replacing for free but is not a recall (yeah whatever!!!).
Having been told to live with it, I would like to see some upgrades to the 5r110, so as not to have shift flaring. I good torque convertor, sized and stalled for what you'll be doing more of, towing or racing and a good going through by The Man in Imperial County!!! Or better yet, a handshaker swap...that would be the best thing for trans longevity...
A good intercooler and ball bearing turbo swap would go long way to more power WITHOUT more smog or violating the "Rules". A good tune that has been made to increase power WITHOUT black smoke and you're golden...studs would be great if you were tuning "WAY UP"..... and while I have done it, an intake is a waste unless REALLY moving up in power. An exhaust is a must do, dual 4's or single 5" will set you for just about anything....stacks are cool but I know of at least one guy on here that got a ticket for them, for what reason I am not sure.
A winch bumper and at LEAST a 12k winch, better 15k or 16.5k and block and tackle if you can to double your pulling power mechanically. HID offroad lights and a matching rear bumper swap would look good.
Coolant filter from Dieselsite, a bypass oil filter to super clean the oil...fluid swap to Sythetics or Royal Purple to reduced friticonal losses, a free spin conversion to save fuel and strengthen the front suspension. A rear swaybar if you don't have one to help handling, a good weekend project would be coming up with QDs to get them ut of the way for offroad adventure.
    Low 2WD bypass switch
    2008 mirrors
RECON line of fire and big rigs for more light...the list is endless...
There's a million things you COULD do, none of which makes the air harder to breathe for any of us and keeps the law enforcement truck on the right side of the law.

    ok...

Since the leaky stock egr cooler lines are part of the smog gear, its cover more than 100k miles, if they leak, Ford replaces them with new red ones I believe...they are going to do mine under warranty.
