    67 mustang questions

So i got some questions to you old mustang guro's....

i used to own a 67 fastback when i was in highschool and parents made me sell it because the found out i was racing...

i now have my hands on a 67 coupe.... i really want a fastback so was wondering if anyone knows of someone that makes a fastback converstion kit for these.. i have seen them done..

was wondering if i can just buy the rear quarter panels like this: Mustang Parts Ford: 67 Mustang Right Hand Fastback FULL Quarter Panel 2 PC,Mustang Fenders,C7ZZ-6327846-CR

and weld them in place as well as find the rear section and trunk....

or am i just opening up a can of worms here??

and i know i know someone is going to say just buy a 67 fastback.. but they are very hard to find out here in cali and when you do find one they are 5k for a rust bucket and over 8k for something not running but not that rusted...

so if i can do the converstion for somewhere around 4k i would be very happy... and no i will NOT be selling it.. so i could care less that it will not sell as much as a real fastback...

here are a couple of links i have found so far: 67 coupe to fastback conversion - Classic Mustangs UK
Heather’s 67 Mustang Coupe to Fastback conversion project. - Lateral-g Forums

any help or advice will be much appreciated

    -Raul

Just buy a 67 fastback

All kidding aside, I think you should be able to find one in the 6-7K range that is running and driveable, but in need of some help. I say this as my neighbor recently picked up one for 7K, and about a year ago he had found one for 5K. Both of them were far from rust buckets. He's also got a third one that he recently finished the build on and will be in one of the mags real soon.

With the economy failing, people losing jobs, etc., you're going to find more of these kind of cars up for sale, and people willing to deal on them. It doesn't do any good to have the old car sitting on the side of the house, when you can't put food on the table or pay the mortgage. Be patient and you will find the right deal. I think you'll be money ahead going this route, as opposed to trying to do all that body work which is time consuming and gets expensive real quick.

Just buy an new body and take all the parts from your vintage car and put on the new body.

Or you can just upgrade all the components to new and modern components.

    Here is a related article.

I know a guy that is building an electric car and using one of these bodies.

yeah, but that thing is like 15k plus shipping etc, but raul if you bought those quarter panels you could do it, but you would also need a rear window, truck lid, and appropriate interior for the new fast back stuff, plus a new rear clip to fab to that one, but its definatly cheaper than 15k

One of the guys does this at school as a side business. There is a pretty good body shop class at Cerritos College and the teacher helps them through the steps.
