    New one for you guys...

    just got back truck with ARPs, new heads, etc.

    Noticing white smoke while driving off from the dealership. Ironically, I only see the white smoke from driving off from a stop....not at idle or start-up. I drove the truck about 75 miles and it was still making a bit of white smoke.

    Any ideas?

    Sounds like you could have some coolant in the exhaust system

    Like residual, or as in it's leaking now?

    Did they pressure check the EGR cooler and engine oil cooler?

    i would have to agree it sounds like coolant in the exhaust i had the same problem when i wasted my heads, egr cooler and oil cooler but you just had the heads done did they do the egr cooler then too and the oil cooler ive been told its a good idea to do thoughs when you do the heads thats why i did it when my heads where done and arps installed.

    Well, dropped off the truck back at the dealership on Wednesday evening.

    Got a call today that a turbo seal was bad and that a fuel leak was causing the smoke. Does that sound right?

    The turbo was bad and that an oil leak from the turbo was causing the smoke. Sounds more like it to me.
    2000 F250 5.4 249k miles. K&N filter.
    2001 F250 7.3 83k miles. Finally tuned DP Tuner, no start, 60 tow, 80 econ, 120 race, 140 agressive, airaid intake and magnaflow 4" turbo back.

    You said white smoke.

    Bad turbo oil seal would only cause oil to get in the exhaust, it should be black smoke.

    Fuel leak means diesel, when diesel burns it turn's black.

    I agree that if it's white smoke it's coolant.

    Then these mofos made a mistake in putting things together.

    When you get your truck back I recommend to drive it hard and tow a heavy trailer up a grade just to make sure that there is no problems with it. I got screwed by Ford on my overheating issue. I brought it in to complain about my truck overheating when towing. They replaced a few parts and claim that they couldn't duplicate the the overheating. So, I thought it was fixed. It started to over heat again several months later when I started towing my boat. By then my warranty had expired and Ford would not stand behind their warranty. I had a leaking EGR cooler and cracked heads. All paid out of pocket. Drive it like you stole it.

    I had a blocked return line on my Mazda and it smoked white, of course that may be different because it's gasoline but I'd figure it would be similar.

    hate to say it, but get someone to stand near the exhaust when you take off..the smell will tell the story.

    i would have to agree blue and gray smoke is oil and black is diesel fuel and white is coolant ussually.

    Well, spoke to the Sr. Foreman yesterday evening...

    ...he said the smoke is grayish/blueish and that one of the first things he did was take a quick smell to see if he could smell coolant...nothing.

    He said they replaced injectors, turbo seal(s), oil cooler, EGR cooler and pressure tested everything...no leaks, compression is perfect, no coolant leaks, everything they have checked is fine up to now anyway.

    He said they'd be calling Ford today for tech help. When I asked him what would happen if Ford too was unable to diagnose the problem and he said that this would be a first them and would probably look to a new engine or buyback....*sigh* Well see.
