    Re: Fuel leak

Fuel leaks can be from a number of sources:

    • The fuel pump weep holes (down near the joint at the block)
The banjo bolt connection on the back of the pump
The fuel filter canister (the bottom rots out)
The blue fuel lines from canister to pump
The fuel return line from the regulator
      The regulator to canister joint
The fuel lines to regulator body
The fuel restriction sensor (on canister)
The fuel heater connection (on canister)
      The Water-in-Fuel Sensor (on canister)
      The canister lid seal
      The canister drain (not likely)
The schraeder valve on the regulator
For 97 California models, also look at the pulse dampener on the backside of the pump (the black disk-shaped thing)

Those should cover most fuel leaks Hopefully I didn't miss anything
Generally, if the fuel puddles on both fore and aft sides of the pump, look at the fuel pump weep holes as a source. If it puddles on the forward side, look close at anything associated with the canister. Puddling on only the aft side of the pump generally implicates the banjo bolt joint. I would try to clean everything as good as you can (I use Brakeleen) and check to see where it comes from. When mine as leaking from the pump weep holes, it would not leak at idle. I had to go drive it for the leak to show up. I hope this helps! Cheers!

    Re: Fuel leak

Don't scare me... It just so happens that I just got in my mechanical Carter fuel pump for my 97. I'm 75% sure it's leaking and I will replace it as a preventative measure as most fail in less than 10 years.

Some say you can replace it without removing the turbo on the California models, but I don't know if I'll be able to get that lucky.

I guess there is no gasket, just the pump shft o-ring right?
