    Keeping my WA plates?

Since I'm going to be a student in San Diego, I'm going to leave my truck, and the wifey's Jetta registered in WA. That way I don't have to worry about smog or any of that crap....

Does anyone know if I'll run into any problems? My "legal" perm. add will be in Sedro-Woolley, Wa (like 100 miles N of Seattle, no emission tests out in the middle of no where)....

Plus I have really sweet license plates :P

Shouldn't be a problem that I know of. Just make sure and keep your WA drivers license. If you get a CA license and have WA plates, they might make you change them.

Commercial vehicles and any vehicle owned by a California resident must be registered upon entry into California unless a special permit was obtained. Visitors whose vehicles are properly registered to them in their home state may operate their vehicles in California until they:
    • Accept gainful employment in California.
    • Claim a homeowner's exemption in California.
    • Rent or lease a residence in California.
    • Intend to live or be located here on a permanent basis (for example, acquire a California driver license, acquire other licenses not ordinarily extended to a nonresident, registered to vote).
    • Enroll in an institution of higher learning as a California resident or enroll their dependents in school (K-12).
Fees must be paid within 20 days of entry or residency to avoid penalties.
NOTE: Nonresident military personnel stationed in California or their spouses may operate their vehicles with valid out-of-state license plates from their home state or the state where the military person was last stationed.
Fees must be paid within 20 days of entry or residency to avoid penalties.

I'm paying out of state tuition, so I'm good :D.

Since the vehicles are WA licensed and titled, I don't think I have to worry about window tint or any other California laws, do I?

Correct. Basically, as a student, as long as you keep residency in WA, you can keep the plates. If you claim residency at anytime, you'd have to switch the plates to be legal. That being said, you should be fine with the tint.

The unwritten law for California about tint is: If you get pulled over, both front windows go down if they have tint.

Yes, my last truck was an '06 Superduty, liked it, just too much money to own, SMOG, register, build, and maintain.

I always have a problem rolling down the windshield ;). I've got 18% on the front 2 windows to match the factory in the back, and I've got 35% on the windshield.
