Well I caved in and bought a commuter!

After hanging in there as long as I could since my commuter Honda Civic got stolen on my birthday last Oct. and after calculating and re calculating costs, and seeing fuel at 5.11. I finally pulled the trigger on a vehicle. Now the problem was finding something that I wouldn't mind driving and even be on the fun side, to get me out of driving my truck and not have me back in my truck in a week. So after searching I ended up with 08 Subaru WRX sedan with a 2.5 turbo charged engine and all wheel drive. Very fun, peppy little car with alot of room for a slightly larger individual. I will post pics later.

Nice...is it the STI? Based on your calculations will you still be saving money with the new payment? I am kicking around the idea as well, but based on my calcs it wouldn't be saving me much money.

Here are some pics, yes this does automatically save me about 200 a month, and the best part is it's just gonna get higher with fuel rising the way it is. says it could get 30 mpg, but I will tell you that will never happen with me, I will probably range 20 to 25. This still is a huge savings with my truck having 4:30's for towing. It is the wrx model, not the sti. The sti is quite a bit more money than I wanted to spend on a commuter. I chose this car because it's pretty much the only 4 cylinder car I fit comfortable in, I'm not that tall, but am a pretty wide individual. LOL I have tons of head room, leg room, and fit in the seats perfect. I already started playin with it, I removed all the emblems off the deck lid. I plan on getting rid of that big chrome garnish moulding and buying a color matched one, I think the back of the car is ugly compared to the front but hey, can't have everything.

Congrats Hoss! I did the same thing last June and haven't looked back. When I figured it out then, I was saving about $50 a month with Regular Unleaded and Diesel costing the same. Now with the cost of diesel almost $1.00 more per gallon, it makes even more sense. Saving several hundred dollars a month and sometimes it's just nice to have a smaller vehicle to whip around in daily. Car looks great! Enjoy!

Well Muley, I actually went old beater action first. The problem is the guy I bought the car from said there was absolutely nothing wrong it ran perfect, everything was in tip top shape. So I actually gave him what he was asking which was really high to begin with, but I figured if everything was maintained and done it was still a good bargain. Well...... 5000.00 dollars later if repairs on top of what I bought it for I finally had a good running beater!! Then it gets stolen not even a year later. So this time I went with the new car . LOL

    Talking

I have a 2005, F250, Crew Cab, short bed and decided I needed to get something that gets better mileage. This gets 28 MPG on the road and about 21 around town and it is fun to drive. It's like driving a slot car on steriods.

BTW, I saw a brand new 2008 (Red) F250 sitting on a Honda lot this afternoon. The cost of diesel is going out of sight ($5.00 plus) and I still don't understand why it's a dollar more than gasoline.

    Regards
    Chuck

    Nice one Hoss....
Yes, I to broke down and got a beater....07 Focus, salvage title after being vandalized.... all fixed and good to go with 16000 miles, 35 MPG, and less than $5000 in it.
Can't keep from looking at MODS for it now, it's an adiction.
