Thumbs up PSD Mechanic in San Diego

Thought I share my experience with a shop in San Diego (Santee actually).

I have been fighting a fuel leak with my '02 Excursion for a while now. I was hesitant to visit an unknown shop to say the least, but with the price of diesel I needed to do something before this problem turned into a bigger problem. I simply HATE taking my vehicles to the dealer but for us diesel drivers there doesn't seem to be much choice. Lucky for me I found Jay's shop in Santee in the 7.3 section here at SoCal Powerstrokes. Thanks.

I spoke to Jay initially on the phone and made an appointment. When I arrived I was stoked to see a newer PSD duelly in the parking lot. When I gave Jay the run down on what I had done without success (changed out the water/fuel seperator valve) I was pleased to see that he already had another valve because he was aware that this was a common problem.

He pulled my rig into the bay. His shop was relatively clean and organized, while I headed next door for breakfast at the Omlette House. When I came back he had already diagnosed the problem and had ordered me a new fuel filter. He also order an air filter and I had him change the oil while I was there since it was WAY overdue and this trip was gonna cost me considerably less than I had expected.

Except for a lift kit and airbags my rig is stock. Jay is a really nice guy and we talked about the different performance upgrades I could do, while he gave my truck a once over. The only thing he suggested is that I get my tranny serviced (since I have 83K miles I knew it was due). He even took the time to check the fluids in my differentials and said he wouldn't worry about 'em.

If anyone needs a PSD Mechanic in San Diego I wouldn't hesitate to send them to Volker's. Don't be scared off by the German Car thing. He builds a lot of different types of off-road engines (from VW's to Fords), Jay knows the PSD engine inside and out. I'll be heading back next month for the tranny service.

    Thanks again socaps
