Talking whats up with my fuel gauge

Alright i have a question maybe some of you guys can give some input and a solution to. When i fill my truck up with the bio diesel from the hand pump half the time the fuel gauge reads right away and some times it creaps up really slowly and does not show how much fuel i have even though i just filled up. by the time the fuel gauge shows how much fuel i have its ussually about 3/4 of a tank. Do i need to replace the pump and float assembily in the tank or could it be the fuel rate coming out of the hand pump that is causing this. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Is the truck off or on while filling ??

If it is off the gauge will go up quickly

If it is on the gauge will go up slowly

That's how it works in my truck

no i always shut my truck off before filling, its almost as though the float is stuck down inside the tank or something because its about 1-2 hours of driving before the gauge gets up to the right level

You could also have a sending unit wire rubbing on top of the tank that could also cause that. Or it could be the sending unit.

My Excursion Does That When I Fill It Up With Atf. I Think It Is Thicker So The Float Sinks In It. I Might Need A Need Sender Though.

thanks guys ill look into the sending unit and see whats up with it and ill keep you updated on the issue. I have one more issue with my rear end some where there is a popping sound when i start going, stopping and turning it sounds as though it is suspension but i took it to my lift shop and the bolts that hold the springs together where broken we fixed that and the problem went away for a day or two and now its back and louder i hoping its not the rear end i also took apart my brakes to see if there was anything abnormal but other then the p brake being loose there was nothing. think you guys might have any sugestions.

I have one more issue with my rear end some where there is a popping sound...
With the 8.5" lift it could be the drive shaft angle if the middle u-joint was not shimmed to accommodate the new angle.

It could also be lack of lubrication on the drive shaft spline where it goes into the rear of the transmission.

You guys can actually afford to fill your trucks up?? :bigshock:

I don't have a stock tank (60 gal Transfer flow), but it has always lagged behind the pump.

I'm up to $160 a week now, and that was before the cost of bio that just went up again... :bawling:

Nope that is why I have a 2006 Tacoma for a work truck. 4-Cyl 5-speed. Would have got a car for better mileage, but I would kill a car in no time in the oil fields.
