Make my own for .78 cents per gallon

I was online looking at utahbio.com, I think I am going to make my own diesel, and stick it to the man. 6000 for a system, it will pay for itself in about 5-6 months. Anyone running homemade? How does it perform. Should I still run cetane additive?

This whole 78 cents a gallon thing is kind of misleading. Right now it's hard to find Methanol for less than $7.00 a gallon and if your really lucky you can find it for $4.50 a gallon. So your final cost could be between 80 cents and $1.70 a gallon, still better than $4.00 a gallon for ULSD. As for a processor, build your own, I built my 80 gallon processor for around $300 (I think, it's been so long) and for performance, it's about the same I only fell the difference when I'm towing.

Here'a a few links to look into for making Bio.

Yes, start with this book http://www.localb100.com/book.html it's the one I used. It will tell you how to build any size processor, I used a 80 gallon hot water heater and a old 80 gallon air compressor tank. Check out http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/appleorchard/ for a bunch of examples of how people made there's.

Funny I came here and found this thread, I have been talking all morning with my pops about getting something like this started. Helps he is a plumber as well!

Lookin into buying the book listed here, and gonna check out the other website as well.

One question though, do you have to have a super clean environment? A friend told me ventilation is a MUST, though that provides me and my father with a predicament, as we cannot use our garage space....
Truck to the left is my dad's PSD. Its got a bunch of Bank$ stuff he put on when I wasnt looking. :bash:

Strokinthevtu I would be intrested in taking part of your process to learn more before I jump in. If you need some assistance in time, collecting oil or buying the product for a bit of mark up I am here to help out. I live in a condo so space is my issue. I live in SImi and work in Thousand Oaks so picking up some cheap bio to help with the cost i am down with. Let me know where you stand.

Another thing you might want to look into is how much time do you have left on your warranty(s). If you have to take it in to the dealer for whatever and they find out your running Bio they could void any and all warrantys you have, find out what Ford allows % of bio to % of diesel for your year truck.

If you are going to make bio at home. Yes you must have ventilation. The methanol fumes are very flammable and using the garage door opener has been known to ignite the fumes and blow up the garage.

If you are in So Cal and looking for good equipment, check out Todd and the guys at extremebiodiesel.Com. They are in Corona, make good equipment and have seminars. You get there about 8am and by the time you leave at noon they have made 50 gallons....
