    DASH Panel Removal?

Hi guys, I need to re route my GPS antenna wire and Sirius antenna wire. The install guys put the GPS antenna on a metal chip on the upper side of the dash. I would like to place this on the roof, but need to know where the wire got routed to and if I have enough wire to move the antenna to the roof panel. Same situation with the Sirius antenna. They both work, but I'm wondering if the reception will be better on the roof. I've been putting this job off for a while, mainly because of lack of info on the dash panel removal. (don't want to break anything). Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hey Hans,
I routed my XM antenna up the pillar along the headliner and out the 3rd brake light and placed the antenna just above the light. Was pretty easy, I did that about 3 times each time when I was going to sale the truck and then put it back in and so forth. With regards to the sat antenna, I have mine underneath my dash no visible and I pick up all sats and have never had an issue with reception. I have read online at Avic411.com (site dedicated to Pioneers GPS Stereos) that most installers place it inside so it is not visible. With regards to your dash, not sure but think it is the same as my 01. First remove the two screws that are facing up by the tach and odometer. Then pull at the left corner and slowly increase pressure until the tabs would release. Once it came out a little, I would reach behind and disconnect the headlight switch assembly, pull out more and then disconnect the Cig lighter, then I could rotate the dash 180 so it would be resting upside down on the passenger seat. Just be gentle on the pulling, you don't want to crack the dash. Then to replace, reconnect the wires, and line the holes with the tabs and guide them back in. Hope this helps.

Just the fascia of the dash is EASY!!!

If you have a stick it REALLY easy, if not:
Turn the key to on and shift into FIRST
Gently pull the fascia away from the dash with your fingertips over the instrument cluster.
Pops right out. I don't unclip any switches, but some guys do....swapped the new DVD/USB headunit in superfast....9/32" holds the stereo in place. XM rutes over the dash and under the DashMat, two sided tape to the left of the inner drivers side vent on a swivel mount...easy!! Routed 12v power through the storage box to the lower power port.
You want I should make a video of the procedure?

I have my XM mounted to the roof through the third brake light. However I have my GPS antenna on my dash, I have never ran into a problem with reception. I have a AVIC D3 and it has never lost me anywhere.

My Maxtent 7" GPS works pretty well on the dash, just don't put it too close to the wiper blade.....
I wish we could get a weatherproof XM/Sirius Antenna like the GM's do...and one for a GPS would be great as well.
