Post DIY - Zoodad Mod w/ Pics

I did this post at another forum, but i figured i would post it here too! Enjoy

So i'm doing a big tow later this week and i want to make sure my egt's stay low i didn't want to dish out the 50 dollars for the zoodad i figured i'd make one myself and if im having any troubles just add more screening

    well here it goes!

    Step 1:
    Remove the grill

    unscrew these four screws

undo these clasps with a screw driver - its very easy

    Step 2:
Start the Dremel! I made my hole about 2.5"x7" If i were to do it again i would make it about 6"x2.5"

    Step 3:
Vacuum! The dust from dremeling gets everywhere, make sure to first vacuum inside the intake before the filter then wipe it down with a wet cloth

    Step 4:
Make the steel frame -- i used a sheet of 8 gage steel i had left over from home depot. i started off by taking the piece of plastic that i previously cut out earlier and made a template, i from there added about a quarter inch on the sides and 3/4 inch on the top and bottom.

    Step 5:
went out and got some very fine aluminum screen and some jb weld. here's the finished product

    walah!

Definitely Lower EGT's. and NO water issues what so ever

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England 's Prime Minister Tony Blair's words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America , he said:
"A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in... And how many want out." Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:
    1. Jesus Christ
    2. The American G. I.
One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

I would say cruising approximately 50 degrees less than what i was used to prior to the install, some people claim MPG increase but i didn't see any drastic change. Once you do the mod you'll question as to why ford didn't put a vent there in the first place!

I assume this is the same for an 06? Any chance the dealer will hassle you for modifying the intake system?

nope they shouldn't hassle you because your basically just makeing a whole in the front so that you have a ram air effect... just make sure to cover it with a screen like Mike has or you can buy a screen type thing.... this is not a new concept... http://www.stealth-automotive.com/pd...003-07_60l.cfm

Hey Raul, have you dealt with that product personally? I was curious how it fastened to the truck.

I did the zoodad, along with an AFE drop in filter and turbo back exhaust yesterday. I took the truck for a long cruise today and notice I get what sounds like turbo flutter or back lash at times. Is this due to the zoodad mod, and if so is it anything to worry about?

    Thanks

i have seen it in person but i have never installed one before.... honestly its cheaper just to cut out a whole yourself and buy some mesh to put off the whole....

thats either your wastegate or a turbo fart neither are anything to worry about, zoodad doesn't cause anything, its just allowing more flow into the intake and the more air the better

Well, since the 6.0 doesn't hava a wastegate.........
Ford says the turbo fart doesn't hurt anything. I doubt it's good for it though. I can make it happen whenever I want, so now that I know the circumstances that cause it, I just avoid it. I'dstill be concerned about driving down the freeway in a heavy rain or snow with the Zoodad though.

I checked my filter box numerous times after many trips to Boise in the snow and heavy heavy rain, never had a problem. At most I would have a very little amount of moisture on the bottom of the air box, but nothing that got to the filter. I was worried at first, but seemed to be ok.
