    Abrasive Brake Pads???

    Hey you All
Long story short, had a shop turn my rotors, the F*&Ked it up and wont fix it, classic story of their word against mine.

Need to know if there are any abrasive brake pads out there that will help take the wobble out of the rotors. I have the power slot cryoed rotors and dont want to spend the money to get new ones

    Thanks in advance
    Cheers

ouch.... why not take it to another shop and have them resurface it? its gonna be hard to take the wobble out.... if you want a hard abrasive rotor look at the ford OEM pads or the superduty hawk pads....

What happened is one of my guide pins froze and caused the caliper to freeze up. I had the hawk pads and we switched over to the OEM pads when they turned the rotors.
On top of that I am not sure how much I have left to resurface before I get to the minimum thickness. So I was hoping there was an alternative???

i have thought about brake pads.. everybody sells lifetime pads.. i think there so hard that they do last a life time.. but in the mean time they wear out the rotors.. an i told the guy at the parts house that.. an he just looked at me like ??? an the guy behind me was like that makes sence.. so i only put on the cheaper pads.. so i do it every couple of years.. beats changing rotors...

Yeah I have thought about that too, but this time it wasnt the pads that messed up the rotor. It was the shop.
Any ideas as to a pad that was made to help with this problem???
    Thanks

Life time pads are JUNK...they feel like crap, beat up the rotors and usually squeal. I replaced more pads for people that had poor brake perfomance and more often than not the customer would have done a recent brake job and they have "life time" pads on the truck.

Ragingman...what is actually wrong with the brake job? It can happen, but it rare that a resurfacing of the rotors will cause a problem. If the machine is not calibrated right or the tech takes off too much metal there can be problems, but in general it is really a simple process.

I always saw the best balance between longevity, performance, feel, etc with the factory pads (I was at Chevy) over NAPA, Autozone, etc. Often the stock pads got better results than the boutique (HAWK, Axxis, etc) pads.

In your original post it seems as if you are asking about those "do your own brake job at home" pads. DO NOT PUT THOSE ON YOUR TRUCK FOR EVEN 1 SECOND. Often a "warped" or pulsating rotor is due to an uneven chemical transfer more than an actual warpage of the rotor. This transfer will actually change the hardness of the rotor in an uneven way. Machining the rotor takes the top layer off and the variance in harness with it.

All rotors are not perfectly machined and machining them you can see a slight uneveness. I have taken brand new Brembos and put them on the brake machine and they are slightly uneven, however on the car they had NO pulsating what so ever.

Tell us what is what you feel (not what you think is wrong) when you apply the brakes, tell us WHY the shop won't address the issue.

The warping is caused by the rotor overheating.

The min. thickness is stamped into the rotor. You cannot use a standard micrometer to measure them you need a brake micrometer, which has pointed tips, so that the actual grooves can be measured.

Most calibers can be turned twice.

Stick with the OEM pads. Not Motorcraft but Fords pads. Two different items.

Call Sunrise Ford and talk to the parts dept. Tell them your a Socaps member and get there pricing. Then compare it to fordparts.com.
