I may need to be rebuilding the rear end soon--too much metal in the rear end for 11000 miles on the current fluid. If I am to go through the rear end, I was thinking of adding either a Powertrax or Detroit locker for the rear. I wanted a little more than what the stock limited slip offers. From what I have learned:

Lockers "free-wheel" or ratchet when going around a corner. Whereas a spool truly "locks" the rears wheels together.

Lockers can hookup (lockup) faster than any "switchable" unit like the air-locker or an e-locker

Both units are advertised as stronger that switchable or posi units.

What I want to know:
1. Can a Detroit/Powertrax locker unit be run on street without damaging the unit or the truck's drive train?
2. How much worse are they on tires?
3. Will this "kill" the trans faster? I will eventually end up at John Wood's for a trans make over-I just don't want to bring it on sooner!
4. How much noise do they make?
5. Anyone have experience with either units on their truck? Please PM me with GOOD OR BAD reviews!!
