We would like to take the time to let all of you SoCAPS guys know about Diesels in the Desert. Its going to be the first actual event that Powerstroke.org has officially put on and its looking like we should be able to make this an annual event. The racing will be Sept. 1st at the Speedworld Dragstrip in Surprise, AZ just outside of Phoenix. We will have two bracket classes overlapping by a second. There will be a 15.5 second and faster bracket and a 14.5 and slower bracket. Racers that fall in the overlap will have to choose thier bracket. We have some great prizes lined up as well as some great grab bag stuff from some manufacturers as well!! Racing will start about 8PM with the gates opening at 7. This year we will be running this in conjunction with a regular open drag night they run, so for this year standard $20 registration will be all the racers will pay, with $10 being the spectator fee. The event is open to any Diesel Powered truck, so if any of your buddies drive a Cummins or Dmax they are welcome too, although it looks to be a pretty Powerstroke heavy event. Myself and two other guys from the southern area of the state will be convoying over if anyone is interested.
We are not putting this on to be an ultra-competative event, rather we want this to be something people are going to to have a lot of fun and maybe win some cash in the process. So far the prize money isnt anything Huge...but its looking like total prizes will be in the $1000-$1500 range before they are split between the two classes. We will also be having an after party at the hotel that we have the special rate at, as well as a lunch on sunday for just Powerstroke.org members (any SoCAPS members would also be welcomed to that!). We have people coming from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Cali, Arizona, and possibly even from Missouri and Kentucky. We are looking at about 70 trucks racing, roughly 45 confirmed as of now, with about 100-120 total trucks showing up for the event including spectators.
For any more info, including the hotel info if anyone is interesed in going...just post it up in here and let me know!!! Below is our main discussion thread on it on Powerstroke.org if anyone wants to see just how much interest we have had.
