I knew the plug was gonna be to small. But summit convinced me that it would work. so I drained the coolant and sure enough it's
too small. the plug is 1/4 and the new hold down nut is 3/8th. Any suggestions, a reducer or and enlarger supplier?

not sure where your tapping in for water temp but i put my sending unit up by the waterpump where the thermostat is theres a factory sending unit there, also a large think it 1/2 plug i used a reducer an the gauge to fill the hole that had the 1/2 plug.. still can use the factory gauge an the after market ..

She is all fixed . I just need to find some grommets like the one I lost that came in the autometer gauge box. Thanks for the help. Karl
