I think you need to have the chrome removed before you have it painted or the paint is going to chip off. I thought about doing it to my X and found that the striping and painting was way more money than I wanted to spend, just the bumpers was going to be close to a grand.

Just a thought.........
The XL models have argent (dull black/gray) bumpers and grill.
Might be less expensive to buy the XL stuff and paint them. You'd save all the prep on the chrome...and might be able to sell your chrome parts to offset part of the cost of the XL replacements.

From the picture, grill and part of the bumper look OK, but, looks like the lower part of the bumper is still chrome.
So, an other option might be to get the Harley Davidson trim bumper which is all painted...but, with the Harley label it's probably very expensive...but, then, it's already painted and may be good to go as is!!

Well, the shop installing my ladder bars tomorrow found an F250 SD owner who wants the chromies; he has black. We're swapping things out tomorrow morning at the shop. :D
