    And the recalls have started

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17725959/

Ford put a stop sell on the 2008 F250s to fix an issue. I guess the mules that were driven around never had this issue but all 29,000 trucks on the lots do.

Just got wind of this a little while ago. The calibration update should be available tomorrow or Friday. We have about 60 or so of the 2008's on the road right now and all has been well. I do have a truck that I sold to a guy in Reno that had the low pressure oil line banjo fitting leak, but it was a installation issue in which was a 3 minute fix.

You need to look at the way you worded your post!
...but all 29,000 trucks on the lots do.
Out of 37,400 6.4 trucks so far only 3 have had that problem. It is a potential problem and all trucks produced so far are being recalled for safety, but not 29,000 trucks have the problem!!

I spend some time on thedieselstop.com and some people there are just going wild with the rumors and jumping at any little thing to bash Ford.

I'd request we keep calm here and deal with facts and not let things get exaggerated!

Apparently the flame out the tail pipe is real and it's scary.

While I was making an appointment at Line-X of Huntington Beach yesterday, they told me that one of their guys had just got his leg burned (not bad - he was just singed) that morning when a two to three foot flame shot out the tail pipe of a new '08 while they were pulling it in to their service bay.

As a result, they were very concerned about working on my Ford diesel truck. I had to explain that I didn't have the DPF on my truck and that they didn't need to worry about a fire.

This is a problem Ford doesn't need right now. :banghead:

Let me correct my myself. Only 3 trucks have reported this flame out as an issue and Ford is taking steps to make sure that the remaining fleet does not have the same issue. No detail were released about how Ford plans to fix the issue.

The automaker will have dealers upgrade software for the powertrain control module, which will power down the engine under higher-than-expected temperatures in the diesel particulate filter. Similar software updates will take place at the Louisville, Ky., plant where the trucks are built.

I would hardly call this a fix. If I am driving down the road with my 5th wheel and my engine stops running I will have a loss of control in the power steering and brakes.

Hey I want Ford to be number #1 but if this is the product that gets released I feel that they are not going to make it. I am not going to be blind and just buy the truck because its a Ford. I want a good product that is made right and built "Ford Tough".

The powering down is a bandage, rather than a true fix.

Why not fix the ROOT CAUSE of the problem? But sounds like they rather bandage the issue.

I drove a 08 couple of weeks ago, nice truck, but time will tell now.......

I was wondering how long it would take for a tailpipe fire. In fact I was talking to my buddy at Ford about this just a couple of weeks ago when I found out how jacked up the exhaust/reactor system is.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when this was discussed,

Propellor head #1: "OK, Lets see, we run a fuel line to a filter just behind the cat. Drill a hole in the filter and install an injector. So far so good. When our little pressure switch between the cat and the filters senses too much back pressure we just inject some fuel into the filter, the heat from the cat will ignite it, we superheat the filter to 1100+ and will burn our carbon deposits down too a white ash.

Propellor Head #2: "Sounds like a perfect solution, but what about the 1100+ degree exhaust coming out the tail pipe.

Propellor Head #1: "No problem, we cut a bunch of holes at the tip, make it a duel tip, because that will really look cool, and no one has one yet, and that will cool the exhaust. I bet you could cool a six pack it will be so Frosty.

Bottom line, you can do all the programming you want, at some point in time some kid is going to be walking by the side of one of these flame throwers and gets charcoaled.

Or how about hauling a fifth wheel loaded with horses going up the grapevine when the exhaust decides to go into react mode, and a flame throws out the rear and lites up the trailer. Can you say Filly Burgers.

I don't think theres a person on this board who has'nt either done or known somebody over the years that has'nt run a fuel line to an exhaust system and used a spark plug ignitor to do some cruising flames.

Of course this just my opinion.

    29,000 trucks, 8 injectors each...

2 or 3 out of 232,000 injectors had problems.

    The sky is falling

    Because of alarmists? Probably.

Much like a little squirmishes in the middle east drive up oil trading prices.

    I agree with that.

The price of oil should only go up when 6 oil tankers gets sunk by an Iranian sub in the gulf in one day.

    LOL!

I am pissed about the entire middle east thing and people acting stupid. I was reading the current news on msnbc.com about the thing going on in IRAN now. Why can't we all just get along and not have issues with the 6.4L engine exhaust?
