    Orange County Diesel

I have read some post on OC Diesel. I bought some suspension parts from them when I wanted to lift my 05 with a DR 4.5" suspension a little more. Got some BDS 2" spacers for the front. Price didn't seem bad. About six months ago, before I found this site, I had them regear my truck to 4:10's and also install a Mag Diff cover and trans pan. Got it all done in a day. Price wasn't bad. PDC in Brea would have done the gear change for the same price. I went with OC Diesel because it was closer and easier to drop off after work.
My main concern with a gear change was gear noise. He said to go with Precision Gears and I would not have to worry about it. Got the truck back and noticed the noise right away. My wife even pointed it out. I called them on it and they told me to drive it a couple of days to see if it goes away. Didn't happen. Had to take it back so they could look it over.
They ended up redoing them and said it would'nt cost me a dime, customer service is their main concern.
I scheduled to have it done after the New Year. Everything is quiet now. I was happy with the service until it was time to change the oil again after the 500 mile breakin period. I went to get the truck after the fluid change and he said he had to charge me for that. They charged me for that the first time. Would not have had to do it again if they were installed correctly the first time.
Needless to say, I will not be going back to them.

    Unitrax in Anaheim

Unitrax regeared my 2000 Expedition 4x4 in 2001 with 4.10s for $1,250. They quoted me $1,500 +or- to regear the Excursion 4x4 with 4.10s. They did good work the first time and I'd go there again. They use premium LE lube. When I last changed the lube the gears looked good, no bad smells or grit, and it was trouble-free for 100,000 miles with a lot of towing. Never changed the diff cover to a Mag-hytec because of the clearance problem with the rear suspension.

I also went to unitrax, I since seemed to have a slight problem with what I think is incorrectly adjusted back lash. I haven't taken it back, just because it's a pain, but I do need to go and take it in. But I didn't have a problem with there service at all. except for the fact that they put the stinkin a$$ replacement gears in the cab of my truck instead of the bed. Took a week to get the smell out. But overall not a bad experience.

Sorry about your troubles with oc diesel, it's always a bummer to get bad service.
Big thanks to Bud and Matt for getting me back on the road!

Where should I have my guage pod and guages installed? I'm not sure BilletSuperStore does that kind of work.

Depends on your preference, The most common is the a pillar, I myself don't like the a pillar mounts, especially if you are lifted, because it removes your factory handle, which you then are forced to grab onto your steering wheel to get in, and I've seen what this can do to your steering wheel, it's just not that good for it, over time, it will give a little bit, depending on how heavy you are. I put mine in a guage pod that sits right above my rear view mirror, I also like this because it does not obstruct your vision at all unlike the a pillar, you lose a little bit of side view. This is important to me, especailly with a lifted truck.

I just went by O.C. Diesels shop just to see what they would charge me for a gauge installation. I Bought a 3 gauge/pillar combo & all of the associated wiring & tubing for my installation. My office is close by O.C. Diesels shop so just out of curiosity I stopped in for a installation price quote. Upon arrival I noticed how out of order everything was, and their work area was cluttered with new & old parts. After standing in there little office/waiting room/display space for 5 minutes, I turned around and walked out, everyone there was to busy to speak with me or even acknowledge my presence. So I left and went back to my office and called them on the phone for my quote, they wanted $450.00... needless to say I would never buy from them or let them touch my truck.

I don't like speaking badly about shops, but give me a brake.... if your going to charge me $450.00 for a gauge installation, at least take care of your shop & potential customers.

I have been thinking about getting a pod above the mirror, but have always wondered how well it would hold up. How do they attach? Velcrow? I also need to see how long the wire on my gauges are. Any pics would be great!:)

I saw that link before I even visited their shop. I believe they had two of the cougars (that were mentioned) working behind the front desk. Both tatted down wearing quite small tank tops, not a very attractive look when your running a business in my opinion.

I agree, I'd rather talk with a skilled mechanic/installer than a washed up pole dancer.

I found a place here in Huntington Beach to have my gauges installed, I'll let you guys know how it turns out later on today.

i would not let oc diesel touch anything i own, much less walk my dog. some time ago, i wandered into their shop, and asked about an a pillar gauge pod, and egt, boost, and trans temp gauge, installed. diprocol gauges, installed, 1200 bux. eff them.

did my own install on my gauges, took me a little over 2 hours to wire everything, drill & tap for the thermocoupler, and drill & tap for the boost gauge, install the temp sender in trans. its not hard to do at all. 450 bux to do that? what a bunch of crooks.

They quoted me $950 to install 3 gauges. I took it to a local guy for the install after I bought the parts from Diesel Manor. They f***ed up my intercooler pipe. Do it yourself if you want it done right. I couldn't find a shop that would do it for less than $400. Lesson learned.
