BACKGROUND
Proper engine maintenance is very important to 6.0L engine operation. Field contacts with 6.0L fleets and customers have proven that proper maintenance significantly reduces the occurrence of driveability and engine issues. Engine oil and oil filter, fuel filter, and air filter changes can save customers from having engine failures and can save warranty expense. In colder weather these maintenance items are critical for proper starting, driveability, and performance.
Proper maintenance can help avoid the following issues:
In colder weather these maintenance items are especially critical for proper starting, driveability, and performance. This is not an all-inclusive list, but can be used to demonstrate why customers should maintain their 6.0L vehicles.
- Fuel Injector
- Internal failures due to loss of fuel pressure from clogged filters or fuel line freeze up
- Spool valve sticking due to contaminated oil or wrong oil viscosity due to extended change interval or improper weight. Oil also becomes thicker in colder weather
- Turbocharger
- Coking deposits collect faster in colder weather
- Failure due to lack of lubrication or dusting from unfiltered intake air
- EGR Valve
- Coking deposits collect faster in colder weather
- Hard Starting
- Due to slower cranking time if engine oil is not properly maintained or low fuel pressure or volume due to filter contamination
