How do I know if I have a limited slip or not?

I am installing a mag hytec diff cover right now and am adding the gear oil. How do I know if i have a limited slip or not? The tag from the diff says
    V 423 F 3L73 10 5 3D17 . Can anyone give me a hint? It is a 03 f250 with a 6.0...Thanks

If I am correct the L after your 3L73 indicates that is is a LS. Hopefully I am not wrong.

That is for the sterling 10.25 but still seeing the 3L73 on yours looks like they kept the same tag pattern.

All superduties have L.S. rearends. Mine is an 03 too and it has LS awell. I just did the gears in it and put two little bottles it the rear for the L.S. I was told to just the additive that comes stright from Ford. It is the best.

If you really want to be sure, jack up the rear of the truck to where both wheels are off the ground. Turn one wheel, and the other wheel should turn the same direction. If it does not, then you don't have LS.
That is the way for no doubts... Hope this helps out...Johnboy

I'd like to tell you that adding that LS stuff helps, but it doesn't. In fact it hurts. After several years of autocrossing with my cousin, the only way to get some extra life out ouf thoses clutches is to not aloow them to slip under normal conditions. That's what that stuff does. it keeps people from *****ing about noise on sharp turns or after periods of extended highway use. Chances are you're probably already doing the one wheel peel now, on the right tire. If this is the case, your limited slip is toast for real world applications. If you read the Ford literature on the service notes, all they are looking for is like about 20 foot pounds of torque to break away the one side from the other.

I have had limited slip on my last 3 trucks, and have not had one problem with the rear end... Just do fluid changes, and regular pm, and all should be good. I for one will never own a truck without it. Just my .02
