    Is this bad?

here is a pic of my fuel regulator screen that fits on the regulator housing on the side of the fuel filter. I am on a quest to see why I can only get 15mpg. Click here for pic there was actually more gunk on it, but it fell off during handling. The response and driveability is a slight perceptable difference. Pretty good for a free maintenance item I figure.

That thing is UGLY!!!!!!!! Funny thing is that I just put a new fuel filter in today and cleaned the screen while I was at it. Your was way dirtier than mine. How long has it been since you changed your filter and cleaned your screen??? Where do you fill up at??? I only fill up at places that have a high volume of fuel moved like truck stops, ect.. Some major crud going on there bro....

    Re: Is this bad?

I have had this truck since May. It even had the factory international/ford oem filter as well as other dealer parts and regular service from the fleet maint. dept that handled this truck before me. The screen was never cleaned--maybe the o-ring material is coming apart on me. Running fine, will have to take a long ride to see how the highway mileage works out.

Most mechanics have no idea what or where that screen is. Good thing we have this site and TDS.com.

    Re: Is this bad?

I have run a couple of bottles of RED-LINE diesel fuel treatment, because pep boys carries it and I really can recommend their gas treatment, so I figure the diesel stuff should be a quality additive. Next project is to wait for my coolant testing strips and possibly a radiator flush.

    Re: Is this bad?

It is on the right hand side of your fuel filter housing. Flip the black lid up inside your engine compartment and you will see it. The screen is in the little hole inside the filter housing.

    Re: Is this bad?

I think all the 94-97's have the same injection system and have that fuel reg. screen. It's on the right side of the fuel filter bowl, but you have to take out two bolts and pull it out. I heard you can also drain the fuel filter and get a q-tip through the opening and just swab out the gunk without dissasembly. get an inspection mirror and see if you can reach it through there I guess.
