    International Power Fest Rally 2006

I had contacted the PR people for the 2005 Rally and told them we'd like the Rally closer to Southern California. They have responded back to me that they may do a couple of rallies in 2006 in different parts of the country. I replied that if Southern California was selected, SoCAPS might be willing to get involved.

OK, International called my bluff and they want to know what suggestions SoCAPS could give them for a rally. They want all our suggestions for a location/venue, type of event, how many days, what SoCAPS could do to help, and anything else that might steer them in this direction.

OK, guys and gals, what do you think??
Do we want to get involved??
And, if we do, what suggestions do you have??
I don't know much about the 2005 Rally...not sure what all was involved. (See the link for Rally 2005 below.)
I'm sure International would fund the event, but I expect we'd have to supply some volunteers to help out...
Are we up to something this big??????
Do you think there are enough PSD's in Southern California to merit a big event like this??

An event like this could be real good for us (if it's a success); or,
real bad for us (if it's a flop).

And, there's no guarantee that even if we do come up a great idea, that International will do a rally here...at this point I think International is just looking for all the options.

Here's a link to the 2005 Rally web site:

It needs to have a show and shine truck (diesel only) show and a dyno competition. That is where I would start.

    Matt...

I think you're right on the show & shine!

But, a dyno competition might be a suicide move for those who enter with any kind of modification! Don't forget, International is the engine company that voids warranties for modifications!! And, for sure it would be a politically incorrect move on the part of International to show any approval of engine modifications!!

I think since it's the engine builder that would be promoting it (or sponsoring it), you'll need to have plenty of "engine related" events (dyno, pulling etc.)

The obstacle course challenge needs to come back to a future event when space is availbale. engine modifications are less on the forefront in this type of event than a pure dyno or sled pulling event. also, the no lag turbo IDI's could take the short course in a vintage regular cab 4x4. That could be fun for any international powered truck.

The downside is that I could see breakage since the first one started to get a little competitive.

Would this be a companion event, or club hosted/partnership?

Possibly contact some of the prior large clubs who were involved for their insight on the involvement or responsibilities.

For a large attended event, activities that can accomodate large volumes, would need to be arranged. And several concurrent events would need to be available.

    Possible suggestions/notes to consider:
    Ongoing entertainment
    Ongoing concessions/vendor displays
Ongoing seminar/product showcases- possibly rotating/re-occuring schedule (taped replays?)
    Ongoing children activities
    Showing/Judging events
Obstacle courses- multiple courses for different categories
    Other concurrent competition events- pulls/dynos/?
    Many, many volunteers
    Sponsors,sponsors
    Media- advertising(print,radio,cable), programs/flyers/posters/table cards/tickets, onsite radio broadcasts
Large enough facilities for- seating, vendor area, activities, meetings, restrooms
Security, trash disposal, outdoor event permits

It would be great to have a large shining star (or would it be an oval) on the PSD community map!

I don't know of other places, but Irwindale speedway could be a good place to hold this event if they would let us. They have the circle track with the grand stands, 1/8 mile drag strip, & plenty of space for venders, games etc...

We would also need a live band to play. That would make it really big. I know of a great cover band that my friends always use for the Superbowl party they always have. I think they cost around $750 but I can check on that. They are really good and play all the good hits form all types of music.
