Clutch won't disengage all the way

Where do I start to look for my Clutch not disengageing. I can't get it in low cept right before I stop completely. I can feel the clutch partially grabbing. but it will go into 1st. Clutch grabs fine and pulls fine. Fluid level is fine in the dot 3 resivoir. I had to leave my 5er at Pismo.

Re: Clutch won't disengage all the way

Here is the link I sent ya again, in case.

Like I said, it says that's for the 94-97 trucks and I'm not sure if the Super Duties are the same. I'm sure someone else knows for sure, but that's a place to start. My bushing eventually took a poo and the rod completely fell off.

The 6 speeds are notorious for master cylinders failing. Do that and the slave and all should be good.

    Thanks again Ryan..
Matty, what is the slave cylinder and does the 99 have the same bushing as the 94-97's?

Re: Clutch won't disengage all the way

I dont think it is a bushing problem and I am not sure if they are the same part. The slave cylinder is on the trans itself. It is part of the system that operates the clutch. the master is on the firewall and the slave is at the other end at the trans. It is the whole MASTER/SLAVE relationship. The master controls the slave. About $100 in parts and all is good. Come to think of it, I have a ZF6 master cylinder somewhere I got by mistake. If I can find it, I will give it to you. The catch is that I will not be able to get it until Saturday. As I am going back to work in the morning.

Re: Clutch won't disengage all the way

Matty, I would be happy to have that even as a spare. Either case I need to get my trailer off the beach next weekend. Let me know, and I would be happy to take a drive and pick it up. Thank you...

That would be a long drive. I found it and I can ship it to you if you want. I am pretty sure it is for a SD and have asked at TDS if it is. It was not the same for my PSD so my guess it is for a SD.

Re: Clutch won't disengage all the way

Well I found the bushing...finally...and it was wafer thin. I had a good inch - 1 1/2 of play at the foot pedal before the rod even moved. So I am going to get a new one tomorrow and keep you all posted if indeed that was the prob.

Cool matty, if it is the bushing. Do you want me to send back or store it here in case someone else needs it? Your call brother...

Keep it and pass it along if someone needs it or you can use it later if needed.

Well to all 2 of you who knew about trucks, it just so happen to be the bushing, at the clutch pedal, to linkage. But for future reference and the digging I did, I will keep an eye on the slave cylinder. Ryan, Matty, Thank you for all your help. On the road again...WOO HOO!!!!

Re: Clutch won't disengage all the way

    Awesome!

When I went to fix mine, I bought two bushings and just put one on normally, checked about 4-6 weeks later and it was already breaking.

The second bushing I cut the four crown pieces off the top and used a nylon then steel washer, with the e clip holding it on. Worked great until the clip came off a month later, but the bushing was still in good shape.

So I used the drill stop method, with no washers (no room). Works great and it is still holding after good few months now.

Just a heads up you may want to check it later, buy another if need be and try to fix it from takin' a dive again.

Re: Clutch won't disengage all the way

I'm going to get another tomorrow, but keep in mind I may put 3500 miles in a year. I only use my truck for the 5er or Well 1 meeting so far, but you get the point...
