    Glow plug/heater cylinder 5???

I keep getting this error. I cleared it a couple times to see if it would keep coming back and it does every so often. This weekend I was up in the moutains in the snow and it was real hard to start and idled funny until it got warmed up. I have a few questions about this, I hope someone can answer.

    1. Does this mean that my glow plug is out and it needs replaced?

    2. Can I ruin the engine while driving with this problem? I can't get it in anywhere all this week and I need to drive it for work.

    3. I have 55,000 miles, would this be covered under the 100,000 mile engine warenty?

    4. If not, how hard is it to do, and should I do all the glow plugs at the same time?

5 (LAST) How long should glow plugs last?

    Thanks
    Jim

If the referring code is P0675, it could pertain to #5 cylinder glowplug, wires, or its circuit. A short in its wiring could cause the 'puter to not fire the rest of the glowplugs.

Actually the glow plugs are neccessary for emissions, so it would be covered by at least the Emissions Warranty, & the Engine Warranty as it is a neccessary component.

It would make starting troublesome, especially in colder weather, but the engine can be run without it. Long cranking will shorten starter life. The block heater will help in starting a cold engine.

Yes, it should be covered under the 5/100K engine warranty. Only thing is the Banks stuff on the truck, the dealer may "complain" about them.

Soundslike probably the Number 5 Glow Plug is grounding out or just gone kaput.

the glow plugs are not too expensive unless you buy all of them. The cost seems to be in the valve cover wiring harness, although you can buy those in sections as they have sub harness part numbers.

Only use the motorcraft glowplugs as the cheapies have been known to break off in the head.
I think you can get the oem glowplugs from autozone as they are marked Beru and foreign made anyhow.

I would take a crack at it myself unless the dealer says they will cover it and not try to tack on a bill later because of mods or whatever. Don't even agree to pay one hour of diagnostic. the one thing they won't do for you is replace them all for free.

My glow plugs are all still good and meter out the same at 90k miles and 8 years. I bet it is the harnesss. People who live in cold climates or with earlier trucks need to replace them more often.
