    AIC

For those of us that live in SoCal, how many of you have the AIC and what is your reason for having it? I was thinking about buying one but I'm not sure if I can justify $300. I don't have a PTO and I try not to idle the truck that often for very long. I do in the summer go to the river and while I'm filling up the boat let it idle w/the AC on for the wife and kids. What else would I use it for?
One more thing. Can on a '04 truck be hooked up the same way as the '05 with the upfitter mod?

    Thanks all.
    Mike

    Re: AIC

I have one and I like it for warming up in the morning, I usually set it at about 900 rpm for about 2 minutes and hit the road. I also like it for keeping the A/C or the heater working while loading the trailer at the track with the wife and kids in it. I like it.

    Re: AIC

I also use mine for morning warmups also.
Also when towing heavy for a long time I kick it up a little to let every thing cool down slowly before shuting it down.
Also use it to keep the AC going strong in summer while fueling or getting food.

    Re: AIC

I use mine to cool down the engine and prevent wet stacking.

It cools off quite a bit quicker at 1200 rpms than it does at idle (at least to about 375 degrees).

My main reason for getting it was to maintain voltage when winching. If you turn on "Charge Protect", it automatically kicks up the idle to maintain a healthy 13.7 to 13.9 volts.

I suppose it would also be helpful in jump starting a car, since when they tried to turn over their starter, your engine would immediately raise the idle, as well.

If you do get one, ITP diesel has them for $260 brand new (with LCD display).

I've seen them on thedieselstop.com's for sale section for $200 to 250, but...be forewarned about half of those are the ones without display or without PTO control.

PS: it just looks cool, too.

    Re: AIC

The AIC from ITP Diesel seems pretty neat, but a the unit is pretty big, and they mount it in the same place as my Firestone Airbag guage and switch is located, I guess I can do some remounting, no big deal. If I move out to Illinois next year, I might find a need for an AIC.
