    Question 02 7.3 shut down issue

    Hello to all,HELP i got a 02 F-450 that is randomly shutting down at idle or on hyw it dosnt matter,with pto on or off no diff.
    Heres wat its doing itll start right up drive 100% for 15 to 30 min n its like someone shut the key off,go to start it n it turns over normally fast but wont fire,leave it for 10 to 45 min n itll start right up n drive like nothing happened for a nother 15 to 30 min n dose it all over again n again.....

    Heres wat weve done so far,changed all breakers,changed can/crank sensor,rooled out feul issue,cheacked all wires n conectors,tryed a nother PCM from one a the other 4 7.3s i got(starts runs drives n shuts down no diffrent) not sure were to go at this point if anyone has any input at all other then selling it, it would be greatly appreciated....

    in a the same issue with my other 7.3s we changed the cam/crank sensor n problem solved but not this one......

    Check your oil level...DID YOU TRY A DIFFERENT IDM? LOOK YOR THE WIRES RUBBING WHERE THE 40 PIN CONNECTOR ABOVE THE LEFT VALVE COVER IS AND ALSO THE DRIVERS SHOCK TOWER. THEY RUB THERE SOMETIMES.

    i myself checked the wirering n did not find any issues there but my tech is gona go through all conections n check wires thoraly(im not a mechanic)
    what exactly is the IDM n where is located???

    Sounds like an oil issue. How is the low pressure oil pump pressure? Could it also be an IPR issue?

    OK new day new input, still not sure wat n were the IPR is but we tryed a couple a other things, my trucks got PTOs n have a seperate computer on the floor to control the PTO n throttle up, on the 02 with the problem today playen around to find the cuer to my shut down prob the pto wouldnt ingage all the time n the more we played with it more that the pto would not ingage untill it didnt ingage at all now, so i took the pto computer out a the problemed truck n put it in a nother truck n it ingaged the pto every time so we put the scanner back on the problemed truck n played some more n it finally through a PCM code twice so tomorrow morning were ordering in a PCM

    does anyone no if i can cross ref part#s on PCMs to no wat other used ones would work or is it a Ford order in unit n thats it?????

    all right more info: pulled off batterie covers to load test batteries n found drivers side batt had a big crack on top by the neg poast, threw in 2 new batteries n played a little more n no more code poped up but problem was still there,found were ICP n IPR sencers are n priced them out "ouch",

    does anyone no if eather ipr or icp can be bench tested in any way becouse there not throwing a code at all, or is it normal for them to melfunction n not throw codes????

    ok we got a proper scaner on this truck n it pulled a crank senser code, so we changed it (for the second time) with a new one n no more code
    when it shuts down n no start the fuel pressure wen trying to restart is only pushen 65 to 150 psi itll jump to 450 for a fraction of a sec off n on n then back down to under 100psi, it did pull a icp code once but wen it is runing we unpluged the icp n itll still run n restart fine????
    now with the fuel presure down on a shut down restarts, if we change the ipr will this corect that or is that normal for starting psi ?????

    oh ya we havent ordered a pcm yet do to ford discontinued them n a jober is a 2 week back order, n with the proper scaner on it were weaning out the codes 1 by 1....

    Wow, sorry for the bad luck, I have no ideas for you but good luck with the fix.

    ALL RIGHT, oil pressures were up n volts were a ok for all functions so we changed out the IPR, i took it out put on 50-60miles n no shut down, sent the truck out last night for a mountain reacovery (75miles in) n its still out on call working 100%

    so 2 cam sensors(one faulty from ford new), freash oil change, new fuel filter n air filter,pull apart all wire conectors n clean em, n the main colpert chage out the IPR

    2 tanks a fuel n still runing.... BIG THANKS to all for the input, great sight n great bunch a guys hear any one need any help that i can provide poast a thread on this thread n ill reaply......
