After smog test get P0299 code

I have a cheaply code reader that pulled a P0299 code after I pulled away from the smog station. After research looks to be a sticky turbo. Has anyone had good luck with cleaning the turbo? I have 52k on the clock and this truck is the tow queen only. It sits the rest of the time. I do run 2 stoke oil in the fuel. I think this is the second time I've had this. Ford already replaced the turbo once. Any suggestions?

I don't know what level strategy you PCM is flashed to, but the most recent flash (VXCF9) will sweep the vanes occasionally at idle prevent sticking on the unison ring. That probably won't help you now but it will in the future.

Have only seen unison ring stuck to turbo housing causing p0299. Depending on where its stuck or how bad its sticking you may not feel any drivability concerns. A simple turbo recondition should fix er up.

Forgot to mention when 6.0s are parked for extended time thats when the turbo unison rings gets a chance to rust to housing. Get the latest calibration installed after you recon the turbo. And make sure to run it to opperatin temp once or twice a week.

Thanks all. I think that my problem is just that. When the truck is running it is hauling or pulling something. Other than that it is an expensive driveway ornament.

When did this most recent flash become available?

    Long time ago...Oct/Nov of '09 I think.

It also added the CEL if you get over 15* difference in ECT/EOT for a certain amount of time.

I run Ford cetane boost in the fuel and once a week drive it like you stole it to keep the turbo and egr valve clean and working and if it set alot need to keep a battery tender plus on it because weak or bad batteries will kill the FICM.
