Like the title says, Has anyone smogged a powermax? If so what tune did you run or did you flash it back to stock and were there any issues?
Thanks

Everyone that I know that has a chip resets them to stock for the purpose of smog and then run it the way they want after.
Most smog shops conduct a visual to insure that all the smog parts are installed, run the engine up to temp, rev the engine twice while looking at the tail pipe for black smoke.... no smoke = passed smog
I have heard the Powermax is smokey unless it has a custom tune. I haven't heard of anyone trying to smog a powermax yet so I was curious. I have a tow tune with stock fuel parameters that I intend to have mine tested with. I could also revert back to stock. I don't have a powermax yet, just doing some research to see if it is even worth it in this state.
Thanks for the input though.
Dik
From what I've seen the Powermax is NOT smokey without tunes. Have one right now that we run stock tune and no smoke. Put tunes on it and we can make it smoke. I think reverting back to stock is a good idea for smog testing. The Powermax without tunes can be laggy, I have first hand experience with that. But once we got tunes oh boy hang on, love it!!
Have you had to smog yours yet?
Yes. In AZ, but the laws are about the same. They measure opacity here. With the Powermax, stock cat, stock tune it was 8ppm. Standard I think is like 44ppm. With the Street tune from SCT the amount was 23ppm.
I really dont know of any reason the Powermax would affect overall emissions.
Cool, they don't even do opacity here unless the tech's eye is calibrated :O)
Dik
Yep sounds to me like you should be good to go... So sounds to me like the emission testing and standards are stricter here in AZ than in CA, no way thats possible...
It's a pretty subjective thing here in Ca...so much depends on the place that does the test. Some are tougher than others.
I was told by the guy who did my tuning to load the heavy tow file before taking it in for emissions testing.

Mine smogged with no problems. The smoggers took a long time checking for aftermarket parts and referring to a 4" thick manual. I asked them what determines "excessive smoke" and they said whatever they decide - there are no rules.
