    More problems

I recently got back my Ford truck from the dealer after a turbo repair. I pulled my 13K travel trailer to San Diego and back. Now it is idling rough and blowing huge clouds of black smoke from the tail pipe. It has never blown black smoke before. No check engine light has appeared yet. Does anyone know what might be causing this? I plan to have it towed to the dealer on Monday.

Sounds like the oil seal in the turbo let go and is adding engine oil to the mix. Have you lost power?

Yes I have lost some power. Thanks for the information. I suspected it was still turbo related. I am grateful for your knowledge.

I got a call from dealership today advising me that their diesel mechanic diagnosed a #8 injector failure. I am mildly surprised since I use Motorcraft diesel fuel additive religiously and I installed a third fuel filter in front of the two factory filters when I changed out the factory fuel tank for a 55 gal one when the truck was a year old. I do have a Ford ESP which should cover the repair minus the $100 deductible. I will update once I learn more.

    76k - Shouldn't injector failure trigger a CEL?

Injector issues are mostly on the oil side when problems come up.

If that is the case I have changed the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles, never further and the last three changes have been with Motorcraft full synthetic. I know the 6.0 is a very high maintenance engine. I really don't know what else I ould have done to prevent this injector failure. Thank you for your input.

The 6.0L trucks can have a problem called stiction. I'm not saying that is the issue, but it could be. There is an oil additive called REV X that solves it. I have heard nothing but good things about it. Get in contact with Tim, aka dalpilot who sells it. He is over at powerstrokearmy.com and powerstrokenation.com.

Start with the easy/cheap stuff. Pull your EGR valve out and have a look at it. They do have a tendency to get gunked up, and if it's not closing all the way that could cause the symptoms you have. A simple cleaning or replacement of the valve might be all that's needed.

Also, if you have a way to check for any codes that's always a good idea. Lack of an check engine light doesn't necessarily mean there are no codes stored.

hello mattymx and SteveBricks I am taking your advice and ordered 2/4 oz Rev X from dalpilot. I should get my truck from the dealer on Tuesday (8/16). The EGR valve was replaced (3rd one) about 7,000 miles back. My truck is hard to love.
