Truck went to the shop today

So this little WRENCH light came on the other day while I was towing my box trailer. Checked and it was an "undefinable code" In the book it said your vehicle is in safe mode and to go to the nearest dealer...ugh

Dealer said to wait to see if the light comes on again, so three or four days later about mile 40 of my 80 mile drive the wrench light came on again. None of my temp gauges are abnormal and it appears to be running good. Though I have noticed that my cooling fan has not been kicking in like I would think it should with the heat we have had.

A few hours later on the way back home, the light came on again, so today I took it in to FORD.

They say I need an Oil Cooler "KIT" and recommend i have them put an oil cooler filter on. This will call cost a minimum of $2000.00........ugh again.

any input on this would be appreciated. Norma

Is the truck still under warranty? I'm guessing probably not if its going to cost that much. Some of the 6.0 guys will be a long with better info than I can give, but I would look into the Bulletproof setup if you need to replace the oil cooler. You wouldn't ever have to worry about it again!

Sorry to hear about the problem Norma.

The stock gauges are pretty much worthless as they won't show a problem until it's too late, so they don't really give us much to go by.

A high oil/coolant temperature differential will set the wrench light (if your truck has the latest programming flash), and can be an indication of a clogged (or clogging) oil cooler.

I remember you had a problem and got some work done on it a few months back, but don't remember what it was...do you know if they updated the truck's programming that time?

I don't know what this "oil cooler filter" could be...maybe they meant coolant filter?

The last time it was in the shop was for the nut that backed off the rocker arm and allowed the push rod to get broken. They only replaced the pushrod at that time.
The paperwork doesnt say anything about the programming.

I also had a bad FICM awhile back....that was a costly trip to the shop.....

Got my truck back Friday, and so far so good. Had our shop mechanic do the repair, instead of the FORD dealer. Glad to have my truck back.
