    Vibration and Shudder on Take Off When Towing

    I hooked up my and towed my 5th wheel toy-hauler this morning and discovered it has the dreaded vibration/shudder on take off that I read about on The Diesel Stop website. My last 3 PSDs didn't have any issues like this, other than that I am very happy! It has plenty of power, handles like a dream and stops on a dime, hopefully this can be resolved. Ford supposedly has a TSB on this, here is what someone on TDS posted about their vibration issue.

    I just got a call from my dealer and he said they were going to do the new Drive Shaft and a Flash for the Transmission. They told me they would not have the Drive Shaft until the first of the week. Will keep you posted on the results after I pick it up. Thanks for all of the posts it really helped when going to the dealer.

    Anyone on here know about this issue?

    There are plenty of us around, but not too many of us with 6.7s yet. A little difficult to diagnose an issue on a truck most of us know nothing about....

    Have you looked to see if there is a TSB for the issue, or called a dealer and had them check your VIN?

    Hey Ken. Haven't heard of this issue in quite some time, especially on 2008 and up trucks. If I recall correctly, the issue was with the angle of the drive line and required shims between the center carrier support. What is the tongue weight of your trailer? I wouldn't think it's much more than 1,500 pounds. How much if any does the rear of the truck drop when you set the trailer down on it?

    I will run the VIN through Oasis tomorrow and see if I can find any additional info for you.

    Dont know the weight but the trailer was empty when I was towing it and the rear didnt sag too much at all. There were quite a few on the TDS site that are having this issue with some dealers shimming the carrier support as you mentioned and another dealer replacing the drive shaft with a heaver duty one. Thanks for checking on this for me, I was going to enquire at Sunrise when I came in for service.

    What was the fix for your shudder concern. We put a lift kit on a 2011 and cant get te sudder to go away. I have shimmed the drive line but dont think its angle concern. Have never had one shudder like this.

    I installed a set of Firestone Air Bags, the problem immediately went away. In Fords infinite wisdom to appease everyone, they softened the ride by lengthening the rear leaf springs. Thus, the spring compression and drive angle issue, if I wanted a softer ride I would have bought an F150. You can search for this issue on the Diesel Stop Website, maybe somone had the same issue as you with a lift. Good Luck
