I think your right. Time for oil cooler, coolant filter and while your in there bulletproof your EGR.

An oe oil cooler will work just fine as long as you flush the gold coolant out and replace it with an ELC coolant.

    Cool

For the few bucks more, I would strongly suggest you go with the Bullet Proof units. They are far superior to the stock and the peace of mind that gives is worth the money!!

Why would you use stock units when you know they are prone to failure and something better is available??

I've always wondered about installing the Bullet Proof EGR cooler because I thought the factory EGR cooler fails due to the oil cooler being plugged and causing the coolant temp to rise then flow into the EGR cooler. So a failed factory EGR cooler = plugged oil cooler BUT if you install a bullet proof EGR that is stronger where is the fail safe if the oil cooler gets plugged again? I'de be more concered about the oil cooler failing and mixing oil and coolant. I've spoken to techs that have replaced engines because they couldn't get all the oil out of the block or if they did a flush there would be an oil film in the degas bottle.

    Cool

    Adam....

You are correct. There are two parts to this problem...the EGR and the oil cooler.
In order to fix the problem for good, both parts should be replaced with after market parts.

Bullet Proof EGR AND the Bullet Proof oil cooler ( BulletProof Engine Oil Systems )

I have a customer we put bulletproof egr cooler anf ford oe oil cooler 10 months ago do to oil cooler restriction. I flushed cooling system with vc9 til clear before it was taken apart. Oil cooler was packed solid with rust iron corrosion and the sandy looking stuff aka silicates. Reassembled flushed cooling system and installed coolant filter. Truck has gone 20k miles with coolant filter changed first 500 miles and a few times after that. And here we are 10 months and 20k miles down the road changing the oil cooler again do to restrictions only this time it only has rust and iron corrosion packed in the oil cooler. The point is if you can swing it and want to solve your issues upgrade to the bulletproof egr/oil cooler. Add an SCT tuner to shut off EGR electronicly if you want to keep your intake free of carbon.
