Regear stock truck due to heavy tow?

For those of you who tow 10K + with a stock truck (stock 18's, intake, exhaust minus muffler, 3.73's, ect.) feel that you truck is working. I just bought a toy hauler that is 9600lbs dry. By the time I'm loaded I'm looking at 11 or 12k lbs. While I thought the truck did OK, it felt like it needs some help. I was thinking of re-gearing to 4.30's. Has anybody gone this route? I do have ID's tow tune with brake assist and it is better than completely stock but could still use some help. This re-gear would put me close to what the Tow Boss package is. Your thoughts? Thanks.

(Yes a new truck from Bobby would be nice but mine is paid off and the wife said, "NO"!)

I'm not as heavy as you, pulling about 9k#. The truck definitely feels it, but I would never consider regearing. But doing so will of course improve towing performance. You need to consider how much you use the truck towing compared to running empty. Regearing is going to really hurt your mileage around town and empty on the interstate. But if all you do is use the truck to tow, maybe that doesn't matter to you.

Even so, you won't ever pay for the gearing with what you save on fuel.

You also want to consider where you typically travel. Our mountains are bad-ass here in CA, but once you get out of the state your truck might do much better.

I just use the 5 gears God gave me, downshift, and the truck does the job very well.
