My old man’s STOCK ‘04 6L has issues upon start up first thing in the morning and when he leaves his yard at work when the truck has been sitting there for 8-10 hours. Once it starts it sounds like it wants to die but within about 2-3 mins it works just fine. We’re in Riverside, California which is located 40 miles east of Los Angeles so it doesn’t get too cold in the mornings…I guess maybe 50*F. My pops works in Orange County. So far I’ve:
* Changed the oil, oil filter and fuel filter at 120,000 miles (still has approximately 121,xxx miles on it. My old man uses Chevron Delo 400 15w/40 oil.
* Cleaned the EGR valve
* Replaced the ICP sensor
* Use Diesel Kleen (Gray bottle at first and then I thought it was having issues because of the cold so I started using the white bottle)
I’ve looked at other forums doing research some people suggest the Glow Plug Relay and/or FICM. I know how to test the FICM (thank you YouTube, J ) but I don’t know how to check the Glow Plug Relay. I’ve also researched into “REV-X Oil Additive” that it supposedly helps tremendously with cold start issues because of injectors. Another thing is that when we start it first thing in the morning we don’t hear the “buzz” you normally hear upon start up (my ‘06 does it every time) Any suggestions? From reading and researching it could be:
* FICM
* Glow Plug Relay
* Possible Injector(s) being bad
WWAPSOD (What Would A PoweStroke Owner Do)? Thanks
