Exclamation EGR delete smog question (UPDATE!!!!)

Hey everyone, I got a quick question. I know of someone that is going to need to smog their truck soon. Last year he had his leaky EGR cooler replaced with a delete kit, with his custom sct tune it has kept the check engine light from coming on up until now since returning the program back to stock. When he goes in for a smog check will they hook up their computer like they do with gas power vehicle smog checks? If he puts the tune back into the truck to shut off the CE light, it smokes light nobodys buisness once you wrap the throttle, but of course in stock form it does not smoke at all, just a check engine light. I think his EGR delete kit is one of those welded up types so it still looks like it has a cooler and egr valve. Any advise qould be much appreciated. :peace:

They are supposed to plug in to the OBDII port to read any codes that are stored. I think all he can do is change it back to stock right before he takes it in and hope that the code hasn't set yet when they plug in.

Let us know how it works out...I'm sure a lot of people are curious about this.

They will not pass with a check engine light! They hook up to the computer for the test. Lack of EGR flow is causing the CEL.

Why doesn't he have a tune written that is all stock except the EGR function is disabled?

I "think" any tune other than a factory tune will show up in the scan and fail you. That would be great if a tune could be made that would show up as stock but have all the changes you want built in.
