    Where's the Power?

Finally got my hands on the new truck (2011 SD 6.7). Rather disapointed in the lag and power. My '05 6.0 with 180k miles and 2200 pounds more weight pulls it by 4 lengths from a standing start. What gives? Does it have a break-in program that prevents it from developing full power for awhile? Only has 150 miles on it.

something sounds terribly wrong. the one i test drove blew the tires off from a dead stop..maybe a lil bit of lag..but it would eat my stock 6.4 for lunch. they typically dyno about 340 w/ the 400 flash from ford.... take it back.

Blew the tires off? Hah; I actually drove this one a few miles as a bare cab & chassis before the service body was installed. It would not break the tires loose even with no weight on the rear end and the traction control off. I'm a little concerened about pulling my 11k pound Snocat.

I'll have them look at it.

The chassis cab's are rated differently than the pickups in the HP & Torque range, 300hp and 660 torque. The c/c's also have a different turbo than the pickups.

Did your sales person not go over the details with you?

No, fleet sales department; I didn't have much input on the ordering process. My 6.0 is also a chassis cab. So, what is the difference in specs between the pickup and chassis cab?

    Thanks

I found it on the Ford website.

    Chassis Cab: 300hp, 660lb torque

    Pickup: 400hp, 800lb torque

    2005 6.0 Diesel: 325hp, 570lb torque

What a bunch of crap! Why are they doing this? Very upsetting; Ford screwed the commercial truck buyer.

It just bugs me when I hear this as the sales person should go over details at delivery.

I have a comparison sheet somewhere here on my laptop, I will find it and attach it here.

    Found this on another site:

"I noticed in e-source that the chassis cab 6.7 engine shows 300 hp @2800 and 660 torque @1600...while it is 390 hp and 735 on the pickups through the F450.

    Is this correct?

Yes it is correct - When Ford certifies with the EPA they do so in two different ways, one is called a chassis cert, (for pickups) and the other is a dyno cert, (for chassis cabs). The chassis cert is used on the pickups - not to get technical but the simple explanation is for a pickup the chassis configuration is a constant, that is to say we know that every one off the line has a pick up box on the back and that allows engineering to go to the max if you will with the emissions, they are working with a fixed frontal area, height, size, weight ect... while on the dyno cert which is used on the chassis cabs, engineering has no idea what the back end of any given vehicle is, so in turn the engine is certified to allow for the worst case application and still meet the emissions."

Thank you, EPA and you Prius driving tree huggers.

    And this:

    Pickup Turbocharger (Wide Frame)
The turbocharger pickup models use a Dual Boost turbocharger. This turbocharger has one exhaust turbine, two intake compressors and incorporates a wastegate. The exhaust turbine has variable vanes that change with engine oil pressure from a PCM controlled solenoid.

    Chassis Cab Turbocharger (Narrow Frame)
The chassis cab models use a standard Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) operated with engine oil pressure that is controlled by the PCM. This turbocharger does not incorporate a wastegate.

Courtesy deliver for PHH. They spent about 15 minutes with me and handed me the keys. However, not their fault, they had absolutely nothing to do with the order.

Thanks for your time Bobby. I'm going to go put a cold cloth on my head and contemplate driving this thing for the next 5 years.

On the other hand, I can always take my 7.3 personal truck for a drive and feel some good performance. My 7.3 will run off and leave this 6.7.

I'm going to go ahead and bump this. My f-550 is a complete turd off the line. It gets you in trouble it's so bad. When it's in regen it actually has some bottom end. It feels like the turbo just doesn't spool but it's the fueling in the computer.

Are they going to have a flash to help with this problem?

Yep, just like mine. Floor it about 4 seconds before you want to move.
