Just Got The Upgrade Flash At Sunrise Fontana

Wow---Went into Sunrise this morning to get the new flash. DEF refill, and first oil change to 5/40 synthetic. Want to thank Lee Cook in service and Bobby Williams for a great job and a great experience. Probably the best service experience I have ever had.

The flash took an already awesome truck and made it even better. The most noticeable things driving solo the 60 miles home was that the new 10% torque increase is felt big time at freeway speed of about 70 mph. At that speed with 3:73's the RPM is right in the max torque RPM and just the slightest touch of the pedal and the truck wants to accelerate instantly and right now. Cant wait to tow the 15K fiver.

The second thing is that the shifting that I already had absolutely no problems with, was even more smooth and positive through all 6 gears. The truck is simply impressive all the way around. --------- Thanks Sunrise & Ford for a home run on this new truck.

Just makes you wonder why Ford didn't do it in the first place.

I am curious about the oil in these motors. what is the "reccomended" oil and weight? and why did you choose to go with syn?

Glad you love the upgrade too. I had a little over 4000 miles at my service. Going to be towing a bunch soon so I wanted to get the synthetic in first. The 6.7 manual requires 5/40 for severe service duty. I have always used synthetic 5/40 in all my Powerstrokes though. ---- I live at 7000 feet in a snow/cold winter environment, on a dirt road, and tow several trailers, the heaviest being my 15000 lb fifth wheel trailer. Tow many times in severe desert heat also. --- Any or all of those factors constitute "severe service duty" in the manual.

Oh, My def level just said below half on the screen, and I do not know how much it took to top it off since it was the free fill up.

Synthetics take lower temps and higher temps than dino oil does. Although I always idle to cool the turbo off before shutting down the engine, I feel that if I goof a little and shut it down a touch prematurely, the synthetic wont fry on the hot turbo bearings as easily as dino oil. ----- Just my opinion.

sounds like you really use your truck for what it was intended!
I bought mine for the same reason, my 5th is about 12k with two dirt bikes...

I plan to go by the "severe service duty" intervals as well since most of the miles will be towing. my last truck was an 04 with the 6.0 when i switched to syn i noticed a great improvement in starting in cold weather due to the heui injectors. I ran rotella in it. i wonder how the 6.7 would do with rotella?

what brand syn did you use? and what did the oil change cost at the dealer?

    thanks for the info!

    FORDWILLY,

Just picked up my 2011 F-350 Crew Cab Lariat 4X4 Dually last night. The ride home was phenomenal. I read that you are using synthetic oil. Did you provide your own oil to the dealer or does Ford offer a synthetic for the diesel?

    Thanks

Sunrise Ford did the change and used their own Motorcraft 5/40 full synthetic. It comes in 5 quart bottles and they gave me the 2 quarts that were left in the 3rd bottle to take home. --------- Glad your ride home was such a great experience.
