    Question Injector cup RNR

Hi people this is my first time here...droped a used engine in my truck that had sat for a few years ran great! right up till I stopped to get somthing and I noticed that sweat smell of Diesel in the air! Oh yes the radiator bottle runith over! my favorite! Maybe someone here has replaced Injector cups before and can give me some advice on things to watch out for/(IE)things not to do! when doing this process, just dont want 2 sunburns on my ass crack from leaning on the fender all day! purchesed the tool and have the cups..and a bit of enthusiasm..just dont want to hear the old..(what you should have done is...) now you have to pull-em all out!

Welcome if your doing this in the truck it is going to take a while. I've done it a couple times and you need to take the time to pull the rocker arms and pushrods out. Then when you pull the injectors take a couple paper shop towels and twist them up like a big tampon and as soon as you get the injector out stuff that paper towel in the hole to soak up the fuel and oil. After you pull the cups out use the brush to clean the holes out , get a flash light and look down in and make sure it get them totally clean. Do Not use air to blow down in the hole it will blow oil all over the place , in stead use some more paper towels like you did before but spray them with carb or brake parts cleaner. Wipe the new cups off also and then smear light coat of red thread locker on the outside of the cup before you install them. make sure when pounding them in they go all the way to the bottom you will hear sound change when they hit. Then put everything back together and let it set over night then start it up the next day.

Just as soon as the parts and the puller get here should be tuesday..and from what weweld says a "Large Tampon" worth of paper towels X8 cyl's...off to Cosco I go! Maybe i'll hit sports chalet to see if I can find some rubber souled climbing shoes so I dont slip off the fenders..Gezz wish I could have done this while it was in my garage..I was going to do the O-rings while the engine was out glad I didnt! The cups made it 2 days, just as soon as they had sustained pressure on them they failed, lucky I caught it quickly no fuel system damage from drain back, the old original coolent that was in the used engine when I puchased it was clean and clear with no signs of contamination.

So this is the deal, I recieved tool's, cups, O-rings, for $370.00 from Epay a guy out of florida had it to me yesterday/monday. The best part is the tool requires only the removal of the injector..very compact (dont have to remove rocker arms & push rods) but I will give everything a good wraping of electric tape as to not scatch or scuff anything. Now (Loctite) Red? The kit instructions make refferance to a green? The only thing in serching many diesel sites in a Green is a Loctite 620 High temp retaining compound? going to start the job this morning early should be done by noon as to give it time to set-up over night before re-filling and starting.

Ok I wasnt done by noon! not even close..it was not what I expected at all, the cups showed no signs of corrosion, most all of them were cracked lost 2 injector cup bottoms/just the freaking tips down inside the hole's, and it wasnt due to horseing them either, you could see discoloration in the brass from long term fatigue cracking? This go's along with most all of the injector lower ends showed signs of light corrosion surface pitting from the cups leaking and sitting!
While I was laying floor of my garage (after my little melt down) reviewing my options ranging from the machine shop to going medieval on those injector cups bottoms that ripped off flush to the casting in the head with maybe a whopping 1/4 of depth (that you couldnt get tap into!) let aloan grab them some needle nose pliers, I had an epiphany (Went back to basic brass 101), found a long slender bolt that threaded in to injector nozzle hole (brass only) then gave it a good spritz of 134a a couple of times and they poped right out! well going to finsh it up today.. and see how I did?..Hmm hope I didnt screw it up and I still have a 8700lb 8cyl emulsifier! let you guys know in a day or so..
