    EGR cooler shot

I have a 2005 with 60,000 miles on it. I measure the coolant just before the degas bottle its reaching over 260 deg. averaging 240. Went to Sunrise ford, found out Im one month out of warranty. The guy stated, that's bad. But he can help me out by fixing it for $5500 but he might be able to work with me and get it down to $4400. It sucks that we have to pay for their design errors with the EGR. Has anybody used the oil cooler upgrade kit from bulletproofdiesel.

To bad you weren't at the OC Diesel GTG. We had a couple of trucks there with the kit on so you could see it first hand.

I was quoted $2300 for parts and labor for oil and EGR cooler at Kieffe and Sons in mojave. I've been told its $1700 give or take at DieselTech in San Jacinto WITH the Bulletproof EGR cooler and stock oil cooler....
I paid around a grand and did it myself. If you need the International instruction I will find them for you.....akes a good weekend, but it can be done!!

Desert_Dutchman...did you install a new ford oil cooler, rebuild yours, or did you get the Bulletproof model? Does anyone know the difference between the Bulletproof parts and Neal Tech? Thanks.

That explains why they look so similar. Diesel Power and Diesel World both had articles about replacing the EGR recently. One rebuilt the stock oil cooler and one installed the Bulletproof oil cooler and said the stock part is the reason for all the problems with the 6.0. Any thoughts about that?

I can't speak to Bulletproof's oil cooler, but whichever way you decide to go it's extremely important that you maintain a healthy cooling system. Use of the proper fluid and periodic flushes are a must. Also, a coolant filter such as the one from difuser or dieselsite is a good investment IMO,

I got the "oil cooler/egr cooler kit" from Bulletproof. It wasn't too difficult to do and it is really nerve wracking to think you won't know there's trouble til its all back together and running, but I got the install instructions and it all came together thanks to a couple of friends and LONG nights of working in the dark in the high desert.
If you need the IH instructions, I'll supply them for free as opposed to paying like some sites want you to do....
If I would have had the money to do the BulletProof oil cooling system, I would have....coolant filter as well as a CCV transplant are on the horizon......still need to do my rear/front diff fluids.....104k miles and still going strong.

Hi. Sorry to sound confused but what exactly did you install? I understand the EGR cooler, but which version of the oil cooler? Did you just get the rebuild kit for the ford oil cooler and the replacement screen for the HPOP, or did you get the complete oil cooler replacement from Bulletproof?

The rebuild kit...again, just to remove the oil cooler from the coolant issues I would have LOVED to get the Bulletproof Oil Cooler, but the price was overwhelming....

Thanks. It does get expensive. I'm at 41,000 miles. So far, so good. When I start seeing signs of trouble I'll do the EGR and oil cooler. This is my second 6.0 and I've had perfect luck with both and I want to keep this one around for a long time.
