Truck broke down

My truck broke down yesterday on the 5 freeway about 30 miles north of San Diego. Had to call the tow truck.

She had a loud pop noise like the sound of a flat tire, but no flat tire, just the thump thump sound deep and loud....so I got it to the shoulder, cutting across three lanes,of bumper to bumper traffic... I saw black smoke as I was shutting it down.

What do you think guys? Injector? Turbo? There were no warning signs. She will start but that horrible thump thump down low on the right front of the motor is there.

Got a truck with a goose neck coming from home this morning, to bring me another truck and haul mine home. UGH...Hope she will run to get up on the trailer....

Going to take it in first thing Monday along with my warranty folder.....

Maybe an intercooler boot...look to see if one blew off or is torn.

If it's a boot some carb cleaner and hairspray will fix that right up.

thanks for the positive input, I sure hope it is not a major job...truck is home now. I will be headed home tonight, going to have a look at the truck on the rack in the morning. If its not a boot, off to FORD...

Well Thats Definitley no boot. Hope alls well. Funny enough we where Campin @ San Clamente Beach. Norma if we woulda known we woulda helped u out and put u up 4 da night...

OH EAGLE, you could have gone all night without saying it is definitley not a boot!!! I just got home from San Diego and in the morning will take Betsy to the FORD DEALER here to have her looked at.

That's a horrible sound, I hope it's not as bad as it sounds. I liked the commentary on the video, here's just a little bit...

"Hello! Come on..., get it on the trailer before it breaks." Then at the end, "Ouch!"

Yes that was me on the video, my 17 year old was driving it, or crawling it in 4wheel drive low up onto the trailer.

I just got home from FORD. They tell me that it is just a bent push rod. Service tells me a nut on the rocker arm backed out, which allowed the rocker arm to loosen up and the push rod got bent. I of course asked if they had ever seen this before, and was told that one other time a truck came in like this. My next question was "so your going to check them ALL RIGHT?" and they assured me that they will. So, the $9.00 part is in stock.....HUH??? interesting. My truck is supposed to be done tomorrow.
