    4x4 won't disengage

On my '05 Excursion I turned the 4x4 dial switch to 4x4 low to back my boat up my driveway which was for about 15-20 feet total. When I was done I turned the switch back to 2WD but the light on the dash still indicated 4x4 low. I tried the switch in 4x4 high, and then back to 2WD but it still did not disengage from 4x4 low. I drove forward, reverse, and around the block, and still no luck getting it out of 4x4 low.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem is? Is it electrical or vacuum related? My problem right now is that I can't even drive it to be looked at / repaired because it's stuck in 4x4 low range.

So how do I address that so I can at least get the transfer case into 4x4 high, or 2WD preferably? I'd like to be able to drive it to be repaired?

wiggle the wires coming out of the brake sensor. have you tried switching the knob with the truck in N and parking brake on?

Okay I went out just now and with the engine on I placed the selector switch in 2WD and started wiggling wires under the dash. Sure enough after I wiggled what I assume to be the brake sensor, the low range and 4x4 lights turned off from the dash. So now I've got 2WD, Thank You Adam! :yay:

Next question..., now how do I solve the problem? Is it the brake sensor that needs to be replaced? If so, is it simply a matter of ordering the part and plugging in the new part?

I'm sure replacing it with a new one should fix the problem. This happened on my bros 03 and all I remember was they replaced the switch.
