    WTF dude?

So I bought my 97 stroker about 15 months ago with a bad glow plug relay. I replaced it shortly thereafter when I went up to big bear and had a no start because the plugs weren't heating up (obviously)... Now, I get in my truck this morning and the relay is fried again? I know these GPR's are somewhat undersized for the load that they deal with, but having to replace it twice in a year? Is there anything that would cause this premature failure?

I have noticed that when I flip the truck on when the motor is cold, that the electrical gauge reads just above battery power for a minute or two and then pops up to normal. Is this a normal occurrence? The only thing that I can think would cause this would be a glowplug afterglow, but as far as I know Ford stopped using afterglow when they went to the DIT setup right? Maybe my batteries need to be replaced because low voltage would cause a heavier current draw through the glow plug relay? thoughts guys? TIA

Looks like you bought a crappy GPR. Also it is totally normal to have the battery meter peg to the left while the GPR is on.

Get this GPR and be done with it...

thanks bud... yeah I had read somewhere that Ford stopped using glowplug afterglow once they went to the DI heads because the combustion chamber heats up, as apposed to the pre-combustion chamber in a non DI head not heating up for for a while because only part of the combustion occurs in it. But since I posted this thread, I have been informed that wherever I read that is disproved... Stupid GPR was like 100 somethin bucks man... I was told that the Napa 109? was suppose to be a good gpr, and I have also heard good reviews of this one I found on ebay that's guaranteed for 3 years. It's just ridiculous that these things fail so quickly

yeah, thanks for the suggestions guys. I'm debating whether to put that big ol honker in there or to go with this relay:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...Q5fAccessories

The guy that sells them says he's used one in his truck for over 5 years with no problems, and he offers a 3 year warranty with it... Also heard good things about a manual control switch for the relay as well, my only concern with that is, how do you know when is long enough, and when isn't long enough to have the glow plugs running?

Kali trucks do have a shunt. It is the strip of metal that is shown between the two terminals-bottom of picture.
