If your truck is modified post up your results.
How deep did the tech get in to your ride?
What mod's did you leave in place?
What did they fail you on?

I have never had to smog my 2002. What years or areas are required to test?
2002, F350, Lariat, CC, LB, PSD, QLJ5, A/T, ESOF(with hub disable switch), LS, Off Road pkg, AIC, ZooDad, Jordan 2020, X-monitor, IAH removed, Fuel pressure shimmed, DP-Tuner 80 econo, acetoned badges, 315 BFG's on Alcoa's, 4"DPPI exhaust, Sonnax/Tricumulator, PA2818 open air filter, Bilsteins, EBV removed, WW, Proflex SS sleeves over the orange manifold hoses, MAP connected to a pressure regulator, EBPS connected to intake manifold, Red line disconnected, Modified factory wastegate, 200amp alternator, AutoEnginuity, Chris Thompson, a SoCAPS and SoCal Biodiesel Users Group member.
All diesel trucks after the 97 model year less that 14000 gross. There's been a lot of speculation and documentation posted here and other sites. The test is very subjective and i think the hinge for most will be the visable aftermarket parts that dont have an EO number.
I believe that it includes model years back to 98 or 99. They just started this year, and I believe that the selection is based on the vin number. If your VIN ends in an even number you will test this this year and if it ends in an odd number you will have to start next year. Don't take this as gospel, this was just what I understood from what I have read. I think San Diego is included, but if it is similar to LA not all counties are required. There is a thread on that has a lot more detail with links to areas subjuct to testing I just can't find it at the moment.
So how come my DMV renewal never said "go see the man"?
EDIT: Ouch. just read Lucy06's reply. Bummer.

Let"s try and keep this thread to the experiences when we head in to the get smogged.
I just had mine done yesterday. My truck is an 02. It was visual only. I have 4" exhaust, a K&N and it was programmed with the first stage of the Edge Evo. I looked through their info book and found out that '98-2003 medium and heavy duty trucks are exempt from the OBDII scan. They didn't know this at first and hooked it up. My truck was idling an as soon as they did it died. So only visual for me.
someone put up a map of the countys that wont be doing the smog...i dont remember if it was here or on the PSN site. ill try to look it up.
I live in San Diego. My truck is a 2002.
I thought only the 6.0 with the CAN was exempt
Exempt counties are listed here
i just realized my truck has to be smogged this week! WTF am i going to do now... i have no stock air-box or a muffler. dont i need the stock air box to pass? what are the visual only checks looking for?

2006 -4 seat Chenowth Explorer, home built, powered by an Esslinger 2.3 turbo Ford motor, T3/T4 @20psi =family fun!!
One guy posted that 03 and older will not go through obd checking.
But there are 3 for the most part... Checking to see all EPA junk is still intact (EGR, cat/dpf, dpf for 08 and up, factory intake) check for CEL's and do a "snap" smoke test ( to see if there is excess smoke).
It's pretty much in the hands of the one doing the test, most of the stuff we have on our trucks have no carb stickers... As a matter a fact, none of them do, haha!!! Find a loner intake and cat... Don't think muffler is something they look for unless it's a carb thing?
